Veteran volunteers are important because they are able to form a camaraderie with veteran patients that can help eliminate the stoicism and secrecy that veteran patients often develop from having served in the armed forces. Veteran Volunteers can help by: · Assist veterans in reminiscing/telling life stories · Educate and assist patients in receiving veteran benefits · Take part in pinning ceremonies or distribute certificates for Veteran’s Day and other recognition events · Friendly visits · Improve communication within families · Assist in replacing lost medals · Provide respite for caregivers · Read to patients Veteran volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with each veteran patient allowing them to become an essential piece in the delivery of quality end-of-life care.

Do you enjoy music? Do you like to sing? Do you play a musical instrument? Can you play music using a smartphone or CD player? You don't need a lot of talent or extensive experience! You just need to be willing to give time to someone receiving hospice care. We appreciate a gifted musician, however, if you like to just play music or sing along you will still make a difference! Music and singing bring comfort and companionship to all people but is so appreciated by those who are confined to their homes or a facility. They need you as a volunteer to provide enjoyment and a quality of life. Only an hour or two a week makes a difference in people’s lives. We will train and support you every step of the way! Volunteers meet all sorts of people in hospice and each has a story and different circumstances. You will learn so much on how to enjoy the time you spend with them! We'd love to have you join our team!

Any pet owner will agree that the presence of a dog will warm the heart and inspire the spirit which is why Hospice Compassus is seeking friendly canines to join our volunteer team. Volunteers, along with their furry friends, would be fostering meaningful connections with patients in the New Orleans area that could benefit from pet therapy. The ideal volunteer is patient, compassionate, and has a heart for the elderly and dying. For the protection of our patients all pets MUST be certified through an approved pet therapy certifying organization, such as Pet Partners, Therapy Dogs International, AKC Therapy Dog Program and Alliance of Therapy Dogs. We can even help you get started with the process! We'd love to have you join our team!
