After our successful summer internship program, Youth for Innocence has decided to create an ONLINE FALL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM for high school and college students! This internship will have two sessions, each spanning 6 weeks. In these weeks, you will immerse yourself in wrongful conviction work, summarizing and investigating cases to contribute to the exoneration of innocent individuals. From writing RT notes and informal discovery motions, to tracking down witnesses and talking with forensic experts, to educating youth through entertaining blog posts and videos, you’ll have the opportunity to experience all the aspects of Youth for Innocence’s mission. Throughout this internship, you’ll learn: A deep understanding of the legal process for criminal trials, covering how the system should work and how the system actually works What role different documents play in a criminal proceeding How to summarize and investigate a wrongful conviction case, from obtaining the transcripts to discovering new evidence How student advocacy can change lives through exoneration The first session of our 2024 fall internship will run from September 9 until October 20. The second session will run from October 28 until December 8. Participants are welcome to apply for one or both sessions. Interns must commit at least 10 hours per week to the internship. If you cannot commit 10 hours per week but still want to help, we highly encourage you to start the training course and become a year-round volunteer. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, so we can validate community service hours if needed. In addition, we can write letters of recommendation or other documents to shed light on your work ethic and passion for volunteering. No prior experience is needed, although if we receive more applicants than spots available, we will evaluate applicants based on their prior experience in law, as well as a variety of other factors. Spot availability depends on the number of cases being processed by Youth for Innocence. If you are interested, please fill out the following form: https://forms.gle/UByXZtBKPa6GGUrs8 . We can’t wait for you to join us!
