At the Center for Youth and Sustainable Development (CYSD), we are in the process of launching an exciting new online platform aimed at empowering girls through IT education. The platform will provide an accessible space for girls to register and start learning IT, and we are looking for volunteers to help develop self-study content for the students. We are currently seeking volunteers with expertise in Computer Fundamentals to help create engaging and easy-to-understand learning materials. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to an initiative that will directly impact the future of girls interested in pursuing careers in IT. We are looking for individuals who: Have knowledge in computer fundamentals, including basic hardware, software, operating systems, and networks Can develop educational content in a simple, structured format that encourages self-paced learning Have a passion for teaching and empowering young women in the field of technology Can commit a few hours per week to develop this content Your work will play a pivotal role in providing girls with foundational IT skills, helping them build confidence and knowledge to succeed in the digital world. About Us The Centre for Youth and Sustainable Development (CYSD) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged communities in Cameroon. We’re on a mission to empower women, girls, and youth by providing them with free access to IT and vocational training. Our latest project is the development of an online training platform, and we need volunteer developers to make this a reality. What You’ll Do As a volunteer developer, you will: Work on building a learning platform that provides free IT and vocational training Collaborate with a team of developers, designers, and community leaders Contribute to both frontend and backend development using the following tech stack: Frontend: React, Tailwind CSS, Material-UI Backend: Spring Boot Database: PostgreSQL, Redis (caching) Hosting: AWS Other Tools: Docker, GitHub, Jenkins for DevOps Help with coding, testing, and deploying features on the platform Participate in weekly (1-2) team meetings to discuss progress and next steps Provide input on technology decisions and platform design Who We’re Looking For We welcome developers of all experience levels. We are looking for dedicated Content Creators to volunteer with us in developing accessible, self-paced learning resources that will help women and girls build foundational skills in technology at no cost. About Us Our mission is to provide accessible, self-paced, and high-quality tech education for women and girls who may not have the financial means to pursue traditional learning pathways. We believe that every woman deserves the opportunity to explore and excel in technology, and we’re building a platform to support this journey. Role Overview As a Volunteer Content Creator, you will develop beginner-friendly learning materials in the form of PowerPoint presentations or PDF documents for one or more of the following domains: Computer Fundamentals Database Administration Computer Networking Linux Administration Server Virtualization Programming (Python) These resources will support self-paced learning, equipping our students with practical skills and confidence to step into tech roles. Key Responsibilities Develop Course Materials: Create clear, concise, and visually engaging learning materials (PowerPoint or PDF) that cover foundational concepts in one or more of the specified domains. Design for Self-Paced Learning: Structure content in a way that allows independent learners to grasp and apply key concepts at their own pace. Incorporate Practical Exercises: Include activities, examples, and practical exercises that reinforce learning and help students gain hands-on experience. Align with Beginner Needs: Develop content that is accessible to students with no prior background, breaking down complex topics into simple, approachable lessons. Ideal Candidate Subject Matter Expertise: Experience in one or more of the specified domains with the ability to simplify complex concepts for beginners. Content Development Skills: Proficiency in creating PowerPoint presentations or PDF-based learning materials that are both informative and visually engaging. Commitment to Accessibility: Passion for creating content that empowers diverse learners, especially women and girls transitioning into tech.
