About Us
The Centre for Youth and Sustainable Development (CYSD) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged communities in Cameroon. We’re on a mission to empower women, girls, and youth by providing them with free access to IT and vocational training. Our latest project is the development of an online training platform, and we need volunteer developers to make this a reality.
What You’ll Do
As a volunteer developer, you will:
Work on building a learning platform that provides free IT and vocational training
Collaborate with a team of developers, designers, and community leaders
Contribute to both frontend and backend development using the following tech stack:
Frontend: React, Tailwind CSS, Material-UI
Backend: Spring Boot
Database: PostgreSQL, Redis (caching)
Hosting: AWS
Other Tools: Docker, GitHub, Jenkins for DevOps
Help with coding, testing, and deploying features on the platform
Participate in weekly (1-2) team meetings to discuss progress and next steps
Provide input on technology decisions and platform design

We welcome developers of all experience levels. Whether you’re an experienced professional or a coding enthusiast eager to grow, we want you to join our team. Ideal candidates should be:
Passionate about making a positive social impact
Open to working in a collaborative, flexible, and remote environment
Familiar with or willing to learn technologies such as React, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, and Azure
Committed to volunteering a few hours each week

Description
The goal of CYSD is to break the cycle of educational inequality by tackling the root cause of high dropout rates in secondary schools, particularly concerning insufficient reading proficiency among primary school children in the Munyenge community. Additionally, our organization is committed to enhancing the living conditions of vulnerable populations, including orphans, street children, internally displaced children due to the ongoing conflict in the English-speaking regions of Cameroon, youth, individuals grappling with substance abuse, teenagers, women, and sex workers in both rural and urban settings.
