Front Desk Volunteer

Front Desk Volunteers Needed We are always looking for new volunteers to help uplift our diverse community. One service area in need of volunteers is the front desk. The front desk can be an excellent learning opportunity for energetic individuals who are looking to gain experience with multi-tasking in a fast-paced work environment. Some of the front desk duties include checking our guests in, answering the telephone, and filing the mail. New volunteers will be trained by an expert, and they will also work together with a partner. The front desk is a special place where you can learn the names of all our guests, solve real problems, and plant the seeds of friendship. Please share this message and contact Susan Alger if you or a loved one is interested. Most opportunities are weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. We also have need of substitutes if you'd simply like to add your name to the list and come out to help on a casual basis.

Floating Cross-Trained Volunteer-- Substitute Basis

Flexible Schedule | Fairfax, VA 22031

Please join us on a flexible basis, as needed and according to your own availability. Shifts are 2-3 hours long, weekdays (M-F) between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Be trained and then added to our Substitute email lists for positions such as Kitchen Volunteer (food server), Laundry Volunteer, and Front Desk (reception). Choose which positions and shifts you would like to work, and respond to the requestor to accept your assignment. Some requests will be for short-notice, urgent staffing needs, while others may be for assignments 1-2 weeks in advance. All positions provide direct service to our homeless neighbors from the community.

Clothing Closet Sorter and Guest Assistant

Clothing Closet Volunteers will sort through material donations, discard dirty, torn, stained, or other unusable items, and retain appropriate clothing for our guests. They will also assist our guest shoppers in locating and choosing a set number of items from our available stock.

Kitchen Volunteer

Kitchen Volunteers play a critical role in our daily operations. As a volunteer, you will work on a team in our kitchen to provide a welcoming atmosphere for our guests, heat donated foods, make coffee and keep drink dispensers filled, serve food, and clean up at the end of shift. Breakfast and lunch shifts are available.

Laundry Volunteer

Laundry Volunteers play a critical role in our daily operations. As a volunteer, you will receive laundry from our guests, wash and dry the laundry, organize the laundry, give out toiletries and basic clothing, and keep a record by using our database.

The Lamb Center is a daytime drop-in shelter for individuals (our guests) who are experiencing homelessness in Fairfax, Virginia. We provide breakfast, lunch, showers, laundry service, Bible studies, case management, employment opportunities, housing and job counseling, AA meetings, small group opportunities, nurse practitioner services, a dental clinic, and much more.
