This position is open to current residents of New Jersey or New York only. The ability to commute to Newark on Saturdays (12:45pm to 3:45pm) starting in January or February is important. A committed coaching team is needed to support Onyx (Boys/Girls ages 12 to 21) - the fledgling Drumline of SoulPhamm. Their season will run from January to June. The Drumline often attracts young people who are at the very start of their musical careers - having little to no experience in drumming. Occasionally, we also attract students who have experience with other instruments who want to learn the collegiate drumline style. Coaches will have the autonomy to influence the team's style, adding Jersey and NYC flavor to their routines. The team can also practice virtually on an evening of the coach's choosing (or on a Saturday any time between 12pm and 6pm). Virtual practices have worked tremendously well for us in the past. The team is expected to include between five and ten young people but we will not recruit for the team until there is a committed coaching team in place. Experience in a drumline is required. Coaching experience is not required but the ability to guide a beginner or experienced musician is critical. We will support you as you grow. There are also opportunities for referral to paid opportunities after six months of service. No phone calls please.

This opportunity is for current residents of New Jersey or New York City who have the ability to commute to downtown Newark on Saturdays from 12:45pm to 3:45pm (January to June). A committed coaching team is needed to support ONYX, the 2024-2025 hip-hop drum major team which is anticipated to draw four to five teens (high school students open to boys/girls). The drum major team is a new addition to our menu of programs which currently includes basketball, cheerleading/stomp & shake, HBCU style majorette dance, sorority and STEM club. This spring we hope to also resurrect our drumline and step team. The team would have a hybrid practice schedule. The virtual practice should happen during evening hours (Monday-Friday) and be 45-60 minutes long. The in person practice will be on Saturdays from 12:45pm to 3:45pm at our gymnasium location in downtown Newark. While drum major experience is not critical, the ability to choreograph hip-hop routines and study HBCU style drum major is vital to the success of the program. Students who join our teams have great passion, but often little to no formal training. The drum majors will join a fairly busy performance ensemble, often being invited to perform in high visibility events such as NBA games and parades. The team would work closely with our hip-hop majorettes - often going before them in a parade. So the ability to "fall in quickly" would be important. We will not recruit participants for this team until the coaching team is in place. Coaching experience is not required but dedication is! We will support you as you grow. No phone calls please.

This opportunity is for current residents of New Jersey who have the ability to commute to downtown Newark on Saturdays from 12:45pm to 3:45pm (November to June). A committed coaching team is needed to support Purple Reign's (girls ages 12-21) 2024-2025 cheerleading/stomp & shake team. The girls have little to no formal training but high desire and willingness to learn. The team currently has six girls, but is growing. The team is fairly busy, often being invited to perform in high visibility events such as NBA games and parades. So the ability to "fall in quickly" would be important. You will be paired with two strong, experienced coaches - both of whom reside in New York. A New Jersey resident is strongly preferred for occasions where the team may have an early South Jersey event. (For instance, the team just participated in their first parade in Atlantic City - which was difficult for our coaches to get to). Coaching experience is not required but dedication is! Competitive dance experience is a plus. We will support you as you grow. No phone calls please.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of young people by providing unique artistic and athletic experiences and performances, and to assist them in achieving the highest standards of professionalism through the development of discipline, skill, confidence, cooperation, leadership, responsibility and character.
Description
Our vision is to promote virtue, equity, unity, justice, faith, charity and a sense of common purpose and brotherhood among all people with an emphasis on the development and advancement of young people through education, athletics, service and the arts. SoulPhamm was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the state of New Jersey on June 25, 2021 and is the "birth-child" of Coach Luis ("Lou") and Dr. Leisa Herrera ("Mz. Doc"). The organization exists to provide training to young people in a variety of sports and performing arts and unique opportunities to display those talents through competition and performance. By integrating mentoring, life skills, opportunities for community service and academic enrichment to the athletic/artistic program, we help make our scholar-athletes as well-rounded as possible, capable of meeting and overcoming any challenges they are faced with. Although Coach Lou passed away suddenly in January 2021, the official launch of SoulPhamm was held on June 26, 2021, which coincided with his birthday weekend. SoulPhamm will recognize its own founding, as well as the achievements of our young people every year on the fourth Saturday of June, as a tribute to the life and legacy of Coach Lou.
