Beacon of Hope Hospice is extending life and quality when cure is no longer an option. Providing hospice services to those who may live at home or in a facility. We have multiple opportunities for volunteering with our hospice patients. The duties of being a hospice volunteer may include social visiting, reading the newspaper, doing a puzzle, providing emotional support, etc. A hospice volunteer is a very important part of our team. They provide support to patients who may not have any friends or family. They provide a special kind of support that hospice patients need during their end of life journey. As a Beacon Of Hope Hospice Volunteer, you will provide non-medical support services according to agency policy and procedures including: Emotional support to patients and families Companionship Relief to family caregivers Assisting with household chores Report response of patient/family to hospice staff After a light screening process and training, you will be assigned to a patient in the KC metropolitan area as appropriate. The requirements to be a volunteer are: Must be at least 18 years of age Able to dedicate1-3 hours per month Hold a current driver’s license Have current automobile insurance No felonies or abuse convictions Pass a drug screen Have a giving, compassionate heart The onboarding process generally takes no more than 2 weeks. After that time, I, the Volunteer Coordinator with go with you to your first meeting with your person needing service. From there, you’ll be on your own, visiting with them as required and providing documentation of your visit back to me.
