Description The Ocala National Forest is seeking campground hosts for campgrounds on the Lake George and Seminole Ranger Districts. Volunteer campground hosts serve as an integral part of the recreation and visitor service teams and are often the first contact for information about the Forest. We rely on our hosts to set a positive tone, offer correct and concise information, and maintain a friendly disposition. Campground Hosts will regularly provide information about rules and regulations, recreation opportunities, and ensure our facilities are the positive face of the forest. Opportunities are available at the following campgrounds: Fore Lake Recreation Area : In the stillness of the morning fog, a red-shouldered hawk calls out with an echo across Fore Lake. Bounded by marshes, this lake in a scrub ecosystem is an excellent spot for birding from the shores of Fore Lake Recreation Area, where visitors can picnic and swim, or make a night of it in one of the 31 campsites tucked away between the saw palmetto and oak trees. Bring your fishing gear to make full use of the pier and canoe launch area. Fore Lake Campground is a quiet spot for camping on the western edge of the Ocala National Forest about 10 miles outside the city of Ocala. *Lodging is not provided. Volunteer must provide lodging (ie. travel trailer, fifth wheel, motorhome)* Campground Host Duties Greet visitors with a friendly and helpful attitude. Assist with campsite registration, answer questions, and assure compliance with regulations. Requested commitment time frame of 3-6 months Keep restroom and campsites neat and clean. Perform light maintenance of campsites and day-use such as trash clean-up, fire ring and grill maintenance, mowing, water system monitoring, and brush clearing. Maintain a neat, clean, and organized host site as an example to the visiting public. Represent the Ocala National Forest in a professional and courteous manner. Show a presence of authority and report any major issues to law enforcement and recreation staff. Keep recreation staff updated on any issues regarding campers, campsite facilities, or maintenance needs. Description: The Echo Amphitheater Day Use and Campground is looking for highly motivated and people-oriented applicants to host and enjoy the winter months in the desert. The campground is small but mighty with 8 newly renovated campsites and one newly renovated host site. The day use area of the Echo Amphitheater is a favorite stopping point for tourists and locals alike. Host duties will include the following: Campground--greet and instruct visitors how and where to pay camping fees; clean fire rings; and provide information about Echo Amphitheater and other local opportunities for recreation. Day Use--greet and instruct visitors how and where to pay if they have not already paid the day use fee; clean restrooms at least twice per day; collect trash from bins and place in the dumpster provided; walk and monitor the path to the Echo Amphitheater at least once a day; address any erosion and silting issues after rain events; and close/open the gate daily. Selected candidate will bring their own hard-sided RV. Reimbursement $30/person/day. Host site amenities include electric, septic, and good cell service! Training is provided. We are seeking friendly and independent caretakers for one site on the Coronado NF: Brown Canyon Ranch day use area. At the site, caretakers will be responsible for greeting the public and answering questions. Caretakers are also responsible for maintenance (e.g., Light trail work, adobe patching, light carpentry, grounds-keeping, cleanup and restocking of the facilities, etc.) working with FS recreation and archaeologists on stabilization and interpretive projects. The volunteer(s) will work Friday through Monday (32 hours a week) and will assist Forest Service Employees in the daily operations of the various campgrounds or day use area. Depending on location, this includes but is not limited to: -Oversight of campground that includes cleaning and stocking vault toilets -Manage visitor use and advising of rules and regulations -Trash maintenance -Talk to visitors and answering questions -Provide information about recreation opportunities on the forest -Educate visitors on fire safety and Leave No Trace/Tread Lightly! principles Training and a district orientation will be provided. A minimum commitment from mid-May through at least Labor Day Weekend is required. A federal background check will be conducted upon award of the position. If couples wish to both volunteer an application must be completed for EACH person. The volunteer must always present a neat, professional appearance and wear appropriate uniform components and name plate while working in the public eye and on official duty. This position requires wearing volunteer shirt/vest components, which will be provided to you at no cost. Volunteer must have their own self-contained RV/Fifth Wheel or travel trailer as there are no hookups. These are boondocking positions. The volunteer will be trained in and adhere to all Forest Service Volunteer policy and guidelines. Campsites at Los Burros CG is described as a "get-a-way off the beaten path," and located north of McNary in meadows and wooded areas. This first come-first served campground is characterized by a scattering of aspen trees throughout the area. Lewis Canyon CG , located near Pinedale, AZ, is located in the ponderosa pines at an elevation of 6,000ft. Lewis Canyon is a large single-group campsite that requires reservations through Recreation.gov. Scott Reservoir is located 2 miles from the town of Pinetop-Lakeside, and is currently closed as a campground due to maintenance issues. The host at this location manages the area for day use. Position is NOT required or permitted to collect fees from campers or visitors. The Pisgah Ranger District is one of the most highly visited Forest Service units in the country, with recreation opportunities that span from waterfall chasing to mountain biking to fly fishing, and everything in between. In this role you will have the opportunity to shape experiences for thousands of visitors while working alongside Forest Service employees and other local volunteers to provide customer service, general orientation, and overarching guidance. **This listing is for local area residents ONLY, who are interested in commuting from their home. Please visit our other Seasonal listings if you would require an RV site with hookups.** Duties Create a welcoming atmosphere by greeting visitors and callers. Provide excellent customer service and accurate visitor information to Forest visitors. Staff a busy front desk alongside local volunteers and Forest Service staff. Answer repetitive questions about trip planning and recreational activities. Respond professionally and accurately to a variety of questions regarding Forest Service recreational opportunities, programs, exhibits, facilities, permits, policies and functions. Provide guidance to the public on rules and regulations. Maintain familiarity with the recreation amenities and opportunities throughout the District. Become acquainted with District staff and programs. Follow issues and activities occurring on the District, across Pisgah National Forest, and within the agency that may help provide the public with needed information. Keep work area and Visitor Center tidy and presentable for the public, requiring duties such as, but not limited to: Keeping brochure rack stocked and assisting in keeping track of back stock. Wiping down countertops and doing light cleaning of other areas that accumulate dust and/or germs. This position does not have a set schedule requirement, although a minimum of 16 hours per month and weekend availability are preferred. Shifts range from 4 or 8 hours weekly including a 30-minute lunch break. Operating hours are 9AM-5PM daily.
