The Pisgah Ranger District is one of the most highly visited Forest Service units in the country, with recreation opportunities that span from waterfall chasing to mountain biking to fly fishing, and everything in between. In this role you will have the opportunity to shape experiences for thousands of visitors while working alongside Forest Service employees and other local volunteers to provide customer service, general orientation, and overarching guidance.

Duties
- Create a welcoming atmosphere by greeting visitors and callers.
- Provide excellent customer service and accurate visitor information to Forest visitors.
- Staff a busy front desk alongside local volunteers and Forest Service staff.
- Answer repetitive questions about trip planning and recreational activities.
- Respond professionally and accurately to a variety of questions regarding Forest Service recreational opportunities, programs, exhibits, facilities, permits, policies and functions.
- Provide guidance to the public on rules and regulations.
- Maintain familiarity with the recreation amenities and opportunities throughout the District.
- Become acquainted with District staff and programs.
- Follow issues and activities occurring on the District, across Pisgah National Forest, and within the agency that may help provide the public with needed information.
- Keep work area and Visitor Center tidy and presentable for the public, requiring duties such as, but not limited to:
- Keeping brochure rack stocked and assisting in keeping track of back stock.
- Wiping down countertops and doing light cleaning of other areas that accumulate dust and/or germs.
This position does not have a set schedule requirement, although a minimum of 16 hours per month and weekend availability are preferred. Shifts range from 4 or 8 hours weekly including a 30-minute lunch break. Operating hours are 9AM-5PM daily. Applicants with prior experience or resource knowledge of forestry, pollinators, fisheries, wildlife, law enforcement, geology, botany, or teaching are encouraged to apply.
