The campground host will represent the BLM and provide visitor information, encourage fee compliance, conduct daily campground inspections, and perform light cleaning and maintenance. Expect daily interactions with visitors, including answering questions regarding area recreational opportunities, and informing visitors of rules and regulations within the campground. Hosting duties include but are not limited to, daily campground fee compliance, monitoring facilities and performing light cleaning and repairs. Opportunities to participate in invasive weeds removal are encouraged but not required. Report needed repairs and incidents to BLM staff. Spring season generally runs from March through early June. Fall season generally runs from September through early December. Campground hosts are supported in various ways including but not limited to: access to solar trailers, water tanks, ice machine, and shower facilities. Enjoy one of the most beautiful settings along the Denali Highway and close to Denali National Park. Brushkana Creek Campground: (30 miles from Cantwell, 176 miles from Glennallen, 196 miles from Wasilla) Dump station/no electric. 200 gallon non-potable water tank available for use. One potable water hand pump available in the campground. Host shack for cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and fee envelopes. Will need a generator for power, gas and propane will be supplied by BLM. Solar panel onsite. Cell service not available. Nearest cell service is Cantwell, (30 miles away towards the Parks Highway) Please note: Host are required to check in with the Office (907-822-3217) each morning between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. The main purpose for this is host safety. We do like information on how full the campground is and any other details which may help us inform visitors. Showers and laundry available at the Vitus gas station and convenience store in Cantwell. Post Office available in Cantwell. Pizza restaurant and coffee shop at Mile 224 Parks Highway. Denali National Park is 58 miles away from Brushkana Creek Campground. Brushkana Creek Campground is located near mile 104 of the Denali Highway. It is approximately 35 minutes from the Parks Highway north of Wasilla Alaska. Most sites are along the rushing Brushkana Creek which holds the Arctic Grayling. Shoreside fishing is available. Due to the location there is no cell coverage. BLM will provide a Sat phone which can be used to make daily calls to the Glennallen Field Office for Host safety check -ins and visitor information. Hosts may need to use the Brushkana Creek trail within the campground to get to a high enough point for service. Hosts will need to provide their own trailer or RV for camping. BLM provides gas for generators and propane for cooking or heating. Host schedules are either 5 days on and two days off or ten days on and four days off. We do ask that Hosts work weekend days. BLM will pay for mileage at a rate of .14 per mile for trips to the Glennallen Field office to use laundry services and showers for you day off and mileage to Brushkana at the beginning of the season and then your return home. We are looking for friendly, customer-service focused campground hosts for our beautiful Trapper Springs Campground , located on the banks of the Madison River nestled against the Bear Trap Canyon Unit of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness about a 35 minute drive NE of Ennis MT, and about a 20 Minute drive West of Bozeman MT. Trapper Springs Campground is an expanded amenity campground that includes large campsites, Pavillion, easy access to hiking trails, vault toilets, and drinking water seasonally. The campground is open from May 1 thru October 1 annually. Our busy season runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. The campsites usually fill during our busy season and nearby day use areas and boat ramps may become congested. The campground is half first come first served with a fee tube (Iron Ranger) located on site and half reservation which can be reserved on https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/261802. The campground hosts’ primary responsibility is to provide information and assistance to the public, meet and greet arrivals, and maintain campground facilities. Often our campground hosts are the first and only contact campers may have with a BLM representative, it is imperative to public safety and the recreation program as a whole that campers receive professional and accurate messaging regarding their stay in the campgrounds and surrounding areas. It is critical that a host conveys a professional and personable presence, maintaining a positive attitude agency-approved appearance, including wearing the appropriate attire (provided). Volunteers must be physically capable of performing all duties and are expected to be on location 5 days a week, including weekends and holidays, providing volunteer assistance a minimum of 4 hours per day (5 days a week). Hosts will be reimbursed up to 5 days a week and are required to take 2 days off each week to enjoy the surrounding area and gain necessary and required rest and recuperation for their next shift. Host positions begin, at the earliest, May 1st, and run, at the latest, through September 30 th . If recreation-specific needs arise, specific dates may be negotiated with the Outdoor Recreation Planner(s) and/or the Assistant Field Manager. Length of volunteer season is not guaranteed and is contingent upon staffing, budget, and workforce requirements, and may be shorter due to unforeseen circumstances. Volunteer positions are at-will, and may be terminated at any time at the discretion of the hiring agency. Specific Duties: Hosts will provide information regarding campground stay(s), local recreational opportunities, BLM rules and regulations, and best resource management practices. They will identify inappropriate and/or illicit behavior and REPORT to BLM and/or local Law Enforcement and/or recreation staff, depending on severity and/or urgency. Daily duties include cleaning, sweeping, mowing, weed eating, lifting garbage bags and cans, shoveling, replacing signs, and raking. Cleaning includes, but is not limited to vault toilets, fire rings, picnic tables, and parking areas. Vault toilets must be cleaned and stocked daily when on duty, sometimes multiple times a day. Hosts will REPORT any repairs needed to recreation staff and may be asked to assist with those repairs and/or other maintenance needs. Hosts will be asked to assist BLM recreation staff with managing online reservations through recreation.gov, update reservation placards on site posts, support special projects related to the campground and/or other nearby recreation facilities, assist rangers with fee compliance, conducts compliance on parking, informs visitors of pertinent fire restrictions, and complete visitor data collection. Hosts will be provided with all necessary equipment and personal protection equipment (PPE) to perform duties including volunteer uniform, gloves, hardhat, hearing and eye protection, mowers/trimmers, UTV (official use only within the confines of the campground), hand tools, power tools, and equipment fuel. The BLM will pay for all replacement and repairs of tools and equipment that is damaged or broken due to normal on-duty wear and tear. Government equipment that is damaged due to misuse and/or negligence on the volunteers’ end will be their responsibility to repair and/or replace. Host Benefits: The BLM Dillon Field Office reimburses the camp host $38 per day, for no more than 5 days of volunteer work, for meals and incidental expenses. The free host site MAY INCLUDE picnic table, access to vault toilets within the campground, access to drinking water within the campground or across the highway and neighboring Red Mountain Campground. THIS IS A DRY CAMPSITE AND NO ELECTRICITY, SEWER, WATER, INTERNET OR PHONE ARE AVAILABLE ON THE HOST SITE. The BLM will not be responsible for emptying black or grey water tanks and host assumes all responsibility to dispose of waste properly. The volunteer will have the ability to operate computer systems and programs in order to create correspondence, reports, documents, etc. and compile, store, and sort miscellaneous information and files. The volunteer would independently perform a wide variety of technical activities using initiative and judgment to accomplish highest priorities in all assignments. Deadlines and priorities often change, and the incumbent must handle those changing requests. Consideration of all duties must be given to planning and organizing work between all programs to which support is provided and organizing workload within all program priorities to meet deadlines. The work includes various duties involving different and unrelated processes and methods. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that procedures and administrative controls of the office work smoothly and that administrative details are not overlooked. Decisions regarding work priorities and time management are based on the incumbent’s knowledge of the goals, policies and priorities and involve independent analysis of each assignment. Physical Demands: Work is partially sedentary and performed in an office setting. Typically, the volunteer will sit to do the work. In addition, there are physical requirements that include lifting, walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items such as boxes, equipment, papers, books, parts, driving an automobile, etc. Normal precautions are required for extended use of computer keyboards. Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are made to furnish information, provide service, seek guidance on difficult matters and provide assistance, including resolution of problems. The incumbent must employ tact and diplomacy, in contacts. Work Environment: The work is generally performed in an office setting. Work areas are adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Occasional work outdoors and in the warehouse is required. Occasional travel is required. Location: Phoenix District BLM Office in Phoenix, AZ. Time/schedule commitments: Half-time (no more than 10 hours/week) staff position. Work schedule is flexible. Use of government vehicle: Will be operated by government employee.
