All transports are in the Greater Cleveland area (NE Ohio). Wanted: Animal lovers with free time to transport our cats. Reward: New friendships, and an opportunity to make a difference in the life of a furry friend in need of a helping hand. Weekend transports are sometimes needed to get the animals to adopt-a-thons and events. Our Transportation Coordinator will work with your schedule and will always give you advance notice if possible. Transporters are needed to take our cats to veterinary appointments and return them to their foster homes. When we have adopt-a-thons to showcase our animals, many times our fosters have to work and need someone to help transport their animals to the event. Most of our volunteers have full time jobs, so daytime transporters are especially needed. A driver's license, careful driving and common sense are all that is needed to transport. Cats are always put in carriers. Our rescue serves the Greater Cleveland area so there is no long-distance transporting involved.

House of Mews rotates adoptable cats and kittens in the Adoption Center of the PetSmart store in Mayfield Hts. They are on view to the public and available for adoption. Volunteers help maintain the cages, changing the linens, refilling the food and water bowls and scooping the litter boxes clean. Coupled with this program is also a volunteer staff to launder the towels on a regular basis so clean linens are always available. While the cage is open and being cleaned, the kitten can roam in the Adoption Center. You may play with it before returning to its cage. This attention helps to socialize the kitten, keeping their stress levels down, providing them with a familiar face in a strange and sometimes scary environment. All cleaning and socializing will be done one cage at a time, making sure the door to Center is closed. From time to time, people will stop by the cages, read the descriptions and look at the felines. You can poke your head out to ask if they're interested in adopting. If so you can facilitate a meet-and-greet with one of the adoptables. There are usually more than one volunteer, with a rotating schedule to ensure cages are kept clean on a regular basis. Training and orientation will be provided by our volunteer coordinator.

Won't you be our champion and help us win the big bucks? Your skill set could enable us to do so much more for our furry friends. As the economy improves, donations and corporate sponsorships are usually the last things to be added into their year's budgets. Non-profits must find other sources of revenue to survive. There are foundations offering grants to animal rescues. Submitting applications for these grants takes an experienced grant writer, and we are looking for someone who can help us in that capacity. Requirements: Anyone with grant-writing experience would be very welcome to try.
