House of Mews rotates adoptable cats and kittens in the Adoption Center of the PetSmart store in Mayfield Hts. They are on view to the public and available for adoption. Volunteers help maintain the cages, changing the linens, refilling the food and water bowls and scooping the litter boxes clean. Coupled with this program is also a volunteer staff to launder the towels on a regular basis so clean linens are always available.
While the cage is open and being cleaned, the kitten can roam in the Adoption Center. You may play with it before returning to its cage. This attention helps to socialize the kitten, keeping their stress levels down, providing them with a familiar face in a strange and sometimes scary environment.
All cleaning and socializing will be done one cage at a time, making sure the door to Center is closed. From time to time, people will stop by the cages, read the descriptions and look at the felines. You can poke your head out to ask if they're interested in adopting. If so you can facilitate a meet-and-greet with one of the adoptables.
There are usually more than one volunteer, with a rotating schedule to ensure cages are kept clean on a regular basis.
Training and orientation will be provided by our volunteer coordinator.
