You will visit a patient in his or her home, a nursing facility, assisted living res idence. Often you will provide respite for the caregiver, along with social and emotional support for the patient. If the patient is able, during these visits you may share common bonds as hobbies and chats about places the patient holds dear. It could be a simple game of cards, watching a television show together or simply holding a patient's hand so that they know they are not alone. The stories and the situations are different every time a new patient and volunteer come together. As time goes on, we have seen our patients and volunteers become best friends and "adopt" each other.

Providing Goody bags for the Terminally Ill provides hope from our volunteer match community. You can purchase brown lunch bags at a grocery store. Decorate them as you wish and purchase individually wrapped items such as: soft fruit snacks, rice crispy treats, soft granola bars, soft candies, craft items, deck of cards, nail polish, tooth brushes and toothpaste, soap, body wash, baby powder and maybe a pair of socks if you wish. You can add a little note to say, "Wishing you a good day." You can make 30 or 300, whatever you would like to make. This is a great individual volunteer event or this can also be a great team builder for co-workers to get together. You can start this event whenever you wish! For the patient's love ones who are taking care of these patients (24/7), our volunteer match community can also provide goody bags of hope and you can let them know in a note with good thoughts for their day along with the same types of snacks and items. If you have any questions on what kind of things for purchase for these goody bags, please call me at 912-661-0358. Once you have finished these bags you would either drop them off our office or we can pick them up. Thank you so much for your consideration and making the day of a terminally ill patient and their love ones. You truly provide hope to our patients and families.

Volunteers in our office help with many daily duties that include things such as: filing, data entry, managing admission documents, helping with scheduling, helping with special events, etc. Our office volunteers work closely with our staff to better assist our clinical staff in bringing the gift of hospice to our patients. You will also learn the process of hospice from admission to death and all it entails. This takes place in our office during regular business hours (Monday-Friday, 8 AM-5 PM). Our volunteer coordinator will give any letters of recommendation, reference letters, etc. that may help with further employment or education. We have a very relaxed and welcoming environment in our office that any volunteer would feel comfortable working in.

You will have the honor of visiting veteran patients and presenting them with a pin and certificate specific to their branch of service. We would love fellow veterans to present this honor, but we do accept non-veterans for this volunteer opportunity since it is about thanking our veterans for their service to the country.
