Hat Creek Ranger District is looking to recruit additional volunteers to support our winter operations at Ashpan Snowmobile Area and the Eskimo Hill Snow Play Area. Volunteers will educate visitors on sled hill etiquette and provide safety information for snowmobilers. Volunteers should expect to work alongside other volunteers and recreation staff. Volunteers are expected to communicate with forest visitors frequently.
Volunteers should be comfortable working in potentially adverse weather conditions and snow environments between the elevations of 3000 to 8000 feet. Candidates must be familiar with winter recreation.
You will be asked to commit to a weekly shift. Volunteers may work weekend shifts, especially around winter holidays with high visitation rates.
This position involves standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Major Duties :
- Volunteers assist public with general questions about the local area, ranger district and the winter recreation program.
- Promote the district winter recreation areas and programs
- Facilities and groundskeeping responsibilities.
- Assist the recreation staff with the winter facilities upkeep and general groundskeeping
- Promote winter safety to winter recreation enthusiasts.
- Be prepared to involve recreation staff and additional support when situations arise.
- Report snow conditions after each groom to the Front Desk.
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Basic knowledge of OSV trail system
- Ability to effectively communicate with visitors, staff, and others
- Desire to assist people
- Valid drivers license and 4 wheel drive vehicle.
