ABOUT THE JOB: Volunteer Board Member, Corporate and General Law Expertise

Las Trampas supports adults with developmental disabilities in Lafayette, CA. We are searching for dedicated Board candidates with legal expertise in Corporate Law to strengthen the Board’s understanding of the legal implications of its decisions and to bring a broader legal perspective to Board deliberations. In particular, the Board is seeking individuals with in-house corporate counsel experience or has previously counseled boards, or worked with non-profits.

DESIRED LEGAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bring expertise in corporate law to help the Las Trampas Board keep abreast with new business laws and developments in the industry
• Competency with California wage and hour laws and compliance
• Knowledge on a broad range of compliance, governance issues, employee benefits structuring, and board resolutions.
• Experienced with employment litigation cases, complex employment disputes and client advocacy. We are seeking an individual who is well versed in legal research and keeps up to date with employment law, ensuring adherence to the latest legal and compliance standards
• Consult and advise on a wide range of custom and standard agreements.
• Help Executive Director and HR Director prepare legal documents and oversee trial cases and hearings as needed.
• A keen ability to grasp complex legal and business issues quickly; balance risks; draw sound conclusions; and provide creative, practical, constructive and timely counsel in a dynamic environment .
• Provide strategic legal counsel and general business law support as needed.
• Oversee contract management, monitoring and tracking.
• Help develop policies and procedures with the HR Manager and Executive Director as needed.
• Help manage external legal resources.

ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND :

Ideally, we are looking for a corporate attorney with expertise in business and employment law. One who is experienced with employment litigation cases, complex employment disputes and client advocacy. We are seeking an individual who is well versed in legal research and keeps up to date with employment law, ensuring adherence to the latest legal and compliance standards. Interested candidates should possess strong leadership, business acumen, and communication skills. Desired backgrounds include prior professional legal expertise in the nonprofit or for-profit sector.
