The Green Crew Environmental Research Internship offers a unique opportunity to dive into conservation research, gather critical environmental data, and make a real impact on local ecosystems. What You’ll Do:
As a Green Crew Environmental Research Intern, you’ll contribute directly to science-based projects, collecting data and supporting studies across various conservation areas. Here are some of the research opportunities available:
- Water Quality and Conservation : Lead water quality testing for our River Watch Program along the MN River basin, monitor contaminated sites, and support the Salt Watch Initiative to track chloride levels.
- Wildlife and Habitat Monitoring : Participate in projects like the Topeka Shiner Conservation Study, Bald Eagle Nesting Habitat Study, Rusty Patched Bumblebee Survey, and frog population surveys.
- Soil Health and Land Management : Conduct soil health assessments across multiple sites, develop an erosion management plan, and explore floodplain soil conditions.
- Forest and Pollinator Studies : Engage in rewilding planning, tree health monitoring, and complete plant surveys to support pollinator health and biodiversity.
- Climate and Legislative Research : Research climate impact laws, create community presentations on climate restoration, and contribute to potential legislative proposals.
- FunGIS Mapping Project : Help map key habitats, species, and natural resources for visual data tracking, combining GPS and GIS technologies for interactive conservation insights.

The Green Crew's mission is to lead the adventure of "saving the world." The Green Crew is a youth-inspired and youth-led environmental action organization. Our conservation service projects provide youth the hands-on experience in meaningful action to make the natural world healthier.
Description
Launching in January 2022, the Green Crew is a unique collaboration between the Izaak Walton League and the BSA venturing program. We sponsor 1 or 2 environmental adventures per month. These adventures have been designed, planned, and implemented by youth. Adults serve as consultants and advisors.

- Orientation or Training
- Interns commit approximately 18 hours per month, including: Monthly Conservation Service Day – Third Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Leadership Team Meeting – First Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. This hybrid internship includes both on-site and remote activities
- All volunteers will be provided training on site. Provided trainings include: Leave No Trace training, youth protection training, as well as training in environmental leadership and environmental project management.
