ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

The Boise National Forest is currently seeking to fill four Camp Host opportunities at Elk Creek guard station, French Creek Campground, Shoreline Campground, and Deadwood Reservoir.

A free campsite will be provided for the Host(s) who must have a self-contained RV or trailer. Tools and supplies will be furnished by the Forest Service.

Elk Creek, Lowman Ranger District

Elk Creek Guard Station is located in beautiful but remote Bear Valley at an elevation of 6,400 feet. It is adjacent to the Frank Church - River of No Return Wilderness and scenic Elk Creek. The cabins are situated in a high mountain meadow dotted with Douglas fir and lodgepole pine amid the peaks of the Sawtooth Range. During the summer months camp hosts will be responsible for taking care of several remote campgrounds including Bear Valley and Fir Creek. The Elk Creek camp host site has water, sewer, and an on-site generator available for use during the day. Bear Valley has 10 camp sites and 2 vaults, Fir Creek has 8 camp sites and 2 vaults.

Shoreline Campground, Cascade Ranger District

Shoreline campground is located on the north shoreline of beautiful Warm Lake Idaho at an elevation of 5300 feet. Warm Lake offers great fishing opportunities for cutthroat, rainbow, and bull trout. Boating, canoeing and swimming are popular activities. Billy Rice Swim Beach is nearby, offering a day-use site for picnicking and swimming. A boat ramp is located just across the road from the campground. The campground has 31 sites, and the host site offers power, sewer, and water.

Deadwood Reservoir, Lowman Ranger District

Deadwood Reservoir is located on the Lowman Ranger District at an elevation of 5400 feet. Because of its remote location, Deadwood Reservoir is quiet and unpopulated, making for great fishing for Atlantic, Chinook and Kokanee salmon, as well as rainbow and cutthroat trout. Boating, water skiing, canoeing and kayaking are popular activities on the lake. A boat ramp is located on-site. There are trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback and off-road vehicle riding in the area. The host site is located at the Deadwood Dam administration site and it provides water, sewer, and a generator for power. The camp host will be taking care of four smaller Campgrounds located on the reservoir: Cozy cove, Barneys, Howers, and Riverside.

Warm Lake Campground, Cascade Ranger District

Warm Lake Campground is near the eastern shore of beautiful Warm Lake at an elevation of 5,300 feet. The campground is situated in a scenic forest of towering, old-growth ponderosa pine, which provide partial shade in the campground. Warm Lake offers great fishing opportunities for cutthroat, rainbow, and bull trout. Boating, canoeing and swimming are popular activities. Billy Rice Swim Beach is nearby, offering a day-use site for picnicking and swimming. The host site offers power and sewer hookups. Warm lake has 10 sites.

A subsistence reimbursement allowance is available. There is no cell phone coverage in the area.

Boise, Cascade, Crouch, and Stanley are the closest towns for grocery shopping and resupply.

Propane and water are provided weekly by the Forest Service.

Adults are preferred, as are seniors or a family. The start and end dates of this opportunity will vary depending on weather conditions/snow.
