Overview: We are seeking passionate and dedicated volunteers to join the planning committee for the 2025 Juneteenth Parade. This annual celebration honors the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and promotes awareness of African American culture, history, and achievements. The planning committee plays a crucial role in coordinating and ensuring the success of the event, from logistical support to community engagement.
Volunteer Roles:
- Event Coordination Assistant:
- Help with coordinating activities leading up to and on the day of the parade.
- Assist with vendor outreach and scheduling.
- Manage communication with parade participants, including performers and floats.
- Ensure that all logistical needs are met for the parade, such as traffic control, permits, and supplies.
- Marketing and Outreach Volunteer:
- Assist in creating and distributing promotional materials.
- Support social media campaigns and community engagement efforts.
- Help with outreach to local businesses, schools, and community organizations for participation.
- Serve as a liaison for local media to secure coverage and interviews.
- Sponsorship and Fundraising Volunteer:
- Assist in identifying potential sponsors and partners for the parade.
- Help with writing and distributing sponsorship proposals.
- Manage fundraising initiatives to support the event.
- Logistics and Operations Volunteer:
- Support the setup and breakdown of the parade route and staging areas.
- Help organize and manage parade participants on the day of the event.
- Ensure that all event supplies are available and distributed as needed.
- Community Engagement Volunteer:
- Assist in developing community-focused programs or activities during the parade.
- Coordinate volunteer registration and assign roles on event day.
- Serve as a point of contact for event attendees and participants, ensuring they have all necessary information.
Commitment:
- Volunteers will be expected to attend planning meetings leading up to the event, which will be scheduled at convenient times.
- Day-of event participation will require a full-day commitment (6-8 hours) for event setup, coordination, and breakdown.
Skills/Experience:
- Previous event planning experience (preferred but not required).
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A passion for celebrating African American culture and history.
