Job Overview:
Opal’s Heart is seeking an experienced and empathetic HR Manager to lead our human resources function and ensure a supportive, inclusive, and productive work environment for our team. As the HR Manager, you will play a key role in developing policies, managing recruitment, supporting staff development, and building an organizational culture that aligns with our mission of compassion and dignity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Talent Acquisition & Recruitment: Oversee recruiting efforts, including developing job descriptions, sourcing candidates, and conducting interviews to build a team that aligns with our values and mission.

  • Onboarding & Offboarding: Manage the onboarding process for new hires to ensure a welcoming and comprehensive orientation, as well as offboarding procedures to maintain organizational integrity and compassion.

  • Employee Relations: Serve as a trusted advisor for volunteer staff, addressing concerns and conflicts, fostering a respectful workplace, and promoting open communication.

  • Policy Development: Create, implement, and enforce HR policies and procedures that are in line with organizational values, local regulations, and industry standards.

  • Performance Management: Establish and maintain performance review systems, assist managers with performance improvement plans, and foster employee development.

  • Training & Development: Design and implement training programs that support the professional and personal growth of staff, focusing on topics like diversity, sensitivity, and working with unhoused populations.

  • Compliance: Ensure organizational compliance with labor laws and regulations and stay updated on HR best practices.

Qualifications:

  • HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP) is a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Minimum 3-5 years of experience in human resources, preferably within a nonprofit or social services setting.

  • Strong understanding of HR best practices, employment laws, and regulatory compliance.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport across all levels of the organization.

  • Commitment to Opal’s Heart’s mission of compassion and dignity for the unhoused.

  • High level of emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity, and a solutions-oriented mindset.
