Position Title: Volunteer Speaker - Continuing Education Opportunities
Position Overview:
We are seeking a passionate, results-driven individual to volunteer as a Speaker for a breakout session during our Confidence Building Workshop. This session will focus on empowering young mothers to pursue continuing education opportunities, including high school completion, GED programs, college, and trade school options. As a Volunteer Speaker, you will lead a 30-40 minute session where participants will learn about local educational programs, scholarships, and resources, and create a personalized plan to achieve their educational and career goals.
The breakout session will provide an interactive activity for participants to identify their educational goals, research local educational institutions, scholarships, and resources, and develop a clear action plan for pursuing their educational aspirations.
We’re looking for a passionate, results-driven individual with:
- Experience in education, coaching, or motivational speaking, with a focus on educational advancement.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with and motivate a diverse audience, especially young mothers.
- Knowledge of local educational programs, scholarships, and resources for high school completion, GED, college, and trade schools.
- Practical strategies for overcoming barriers to education and career advancement.
- Empathy and the ability to create a safe, supportive environment for participants to discuss and plan their educational goals.
- Organizational skills to deliver a structured 30-40 minute presentation that is both informative and interactive.
- A commitment to South Project’s mission of empowering young mothers through education and personal growth.
Nice to have:
- Background in education, counseling, social work, or coaching.
- Experience working with young mothers or underserved populations.
- Familiarity with local educational institutions, scholarships, and resources in the Houston Metro area.
- Previous experience leading workshops or coaching sessions on educational or career development.
Time Commitment:
- 1-2 hours for preparation and content creation.
- 30-40 minute breakout session during the Confidence Building Workshop.
- Time for an interactive activity where participants identify their educational goals and create an action plan to pursue them.

Description
South Project is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering young mothers, under 23 years old, by providing mentorship, educational resources, and a supportive community. Our mission is to equip young mothers with the skills, confidence, and resources they need to overcome the challenges of early parenthood and build successful, independent futures for themselves and their children.
We offer personalized mentorship, educational workshops on topics such as parenting, financial literacy, and career development, as well as essential resources to help our participants thrive. Through these programs, we aim to reduce stigma, provide emotional support, and create opportunities for young mothers to succeed in all aspects of their lives.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors. Board members play a critical role in helping us expand our impact, develop sustainable fundraising strategies, and provide strategic guidance to achieve our mission.
