Volunteer Opportunity: Furry 5K & Community Events Chair, Board of Directors

Do you love dogs, cats, and critters? Do you also have events and leadership expertise? If so,
we have a position for you!

The Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) is seeking a Community Events Chair to plan and
execute events for the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation and the animals we are supporting.
This role has the unique opportunity to plan and coordinate events on behalf of this 501(c)3
organization. The Community Events Co-Chair will collaborate with the Furry 5K and
Community Events committee members and will be a member of our 15-person board. This is
an unpaid position with a 3-year term. This position will require an average of 3-5 hours of work
weekly throughout the year, as we host our own and participate in a variety of communityfocused fundraising and awareness events.

The ideal candidate has previous event and volunteer management experience, is willing to roll
up their sleeves to plan and execute tasks and is passionate about helping Seattle’s animals and
engaging with the community. This animal lover will be well-versed in planning and executing a
variety of events, ranging from small tabling events to large-scale extravaganzas. In particular,
this individual will also be well versed in and will take the lead on event volunteer recruitment,
training, and management and should be comfortable with delegating tasks and leading a team
of passionate volunteers. Attention to detail, a can-do attitude, and the ability to thrive in a
fast-paced, ambiguous environment are essential elements to this role. The candidate will also
work with our fundraising and marketing teams to ensure our donors are well-informed about
upcoming events.

Here are some of the projects you will be co-leading:
* Furry 5K: Each June, the Furry 5K fun run/walk fundraiser attracts thousands of twolegged runners accompanied by their four-legged companions. The race is followed by
pet fair, with entertainment, festive music, awards, and an interactive vendor area. A
popular event in Seattle that is celebrating its 25th year! The Furry 5K is one of the few
races in the Puget Sound area that encourages participants to run or walk with their
dogs.
* Several smaller fundraising and awareness events throughout the year: From small
beer and wine events to neighborhood festivals to annual holiday photo sessions, SASF
works to raise awareness about the Seattle Animal Shelter through various events.
Board Member Requirements:
* Ability to commit to a 3-year term
* Ability to contribute $1000 annually to SASF through funds or in-kind donations (any
solicited/procured items and event ticket sales from one's network counts toward this
commitment)
* Ability to attend monthly Board meetings held on Wednesdays 5:30-7pm (currently
virtual)

Description

In 2010, the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS) and a committed group of volunteers recognized that there were certain needs above and beyond what the City of Seattle could fund. To better address these needs, the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation (SASF) was formed. In 2024, the organization has expanded to become the Seattle Animal Foundation (SAF), where we partner with animal welfare organizations throughout the Greater Seattle area to further their lifesaving missions and empower community involvement.

SAF is a non-profit organization run by a volunteer board that is dedicated to partnering with animal welfare organizations throughout the Greater Seattle area to further their lifesaving missions and empower community involvement. Thousands of dogs, cats and critters are helped every year and this support is made possible through generous donors and committed volunteers.

By raising these critical funds, SAF contributes to the health and wellbeing of Seattle’s homeless animals by funding life changing programs and services led by animal welfare organizations in the area. We invite volunteers and the local community to be part of the effort, and if you are already a supporter, thank you for putting the animals first.
