Jamaica Independence Foundation, Inc. (JIFI~NYC), is a 501(c)(3) accredited not-for-profit /NGO entity and was created to advocate for (a) women in crisis situations, (b) amateur youth athletes from Jamaica playing sports in the U.S., and (c) underserved communities.
Our members are all volunteers with diverse industry background, but all of whom share one common goal, which is to give back, do good, and advocate for those who are disadvantaged or who are the most underserved among us.
JIFI~NYC fundraises on behalf of a diverse array of public charities dedicated to the betterment of our diaspora at home and here in the U.S., as well as our global community.

The primary responsibility of the Social Media Manager is to assist the Jamaica Independence Foundation, Inc., by developing and executing social media strategies, creating content, and managing social media accounts to amplify the foundation’s mission. Additional tasks may be assigned as part of the volunteer’s regular duties.
Job description:
The Social Media Manager at Jamaica Independence Foundation, Inc., is responsible for developing and executing social media strategies that amplify the organization's mission and engage our community. You will assist in the creation of dynamic content, manage our social media accounts, and interact with followers to help grow our digital presence and influence.
This role is perfect for someone who is not only creative and skilled in digital media but also passionate about social change and willing to use their talents to make a difference. You will play a critical role in building our digital community, driving engagement, and expanding our outreach to potential supporters and partners.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience in social media management and content creation, ideally in the nonprofit sector.
- In-depth knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.) and their respective audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft compelling stories and messages.
- Organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple campaigns simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- A passion for digital storytelling and creating content that drives social impact.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Creative thinking with a strong attention to detail.
- Experience with analytics tools and measuring social media campaign effectiveness.
- A proactive, self-starter attitude with the ability to work remotely or in-office.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in social media management or content creation (at least 2 years)
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and digital content trends
- Proficiency in video editing and graphic design tools
- Bachelor’s degree (appreciated) in a related field

Responsibilities:
- Strategic Content Development: Collaborate with the team to create and execute impactful social media campaigns that align with our mission and goals. Set clear targets for audience engagement and awareness.
- Visual Storytelling & Content Curation: Curate and oversee the creation of multimedia content (videos, graphics, blog posts, etc.) that reflects our mission and resonates with our community.
- Community Engagement: Actively engage with followers on social media, respond to comments and messages, and foster a positive, inclusive space for dialogue.
- Data-Informed Strategy: Track and analyze social media analytics to monitor performance, identify trends, and optimize content for better engagement and impact.
- Trend Monitoring: Stay current with social media trends, digital marketing strategies, and new content formats to keep our messaging fresh and engaging.
- Content Calendar Management: Maintain and update the social media content calendar to ensure consistent and timely posting.
This is an unpaid Volunteer/Intern position.
