Requirements
This position requires working Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Occasionally, you may be asked to cover other days, but it is not mandatory. Please list THREE references who know you well and can attest to your character. Please do not list family members as references. Ideally, we would like someone who can volunteer all season (May-October).
Overview and Duties
Pompeys Pillar National Monument is located along the banks of the Yellowstone River and is the only surviving marker along the Lewis and Clark Trail. Visitors can ascend the steps to the signature that was left behind by William Clark, or ascend to the top of the Pillar for a panoramic view of the area.
Gift shop attendants are responsible for overseeing the gift shop. This position requires working Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Duties include:
- Restocking items
- Facilitating cash and card transactions
- Greeting site visitors
- Reconciling fees at close of shift
Position requires working weekends. You will only need to work during the visitor center hours, which are from 9:00-4:00. Training and uniform will be provided.
Site Accommodations
We have spaces to accommodate campers or RVs, with three 50 AMP ports and five 30 AMP ports. There is also a communal fridge/freezer and a washing machine and dryer on site. We do NOT have wifi at the site.
Nearby Amenities
Pompeys Pillar National Monument is located 30 miles east of Billings, MT. Billings has a population of 117,000 and offers a variety of grocery stores, restaurants, and forms of entertainment.
10 miles west of PPNM is the town of Worden, which has a grocery store, post office, and gas station.
You will also find several state parks and scenic areas that are only a short drive from the site. Some of these include: Pictograph Cave State Park, Chief Plenty Coups State Park, Beartooth Pass, Red Lodge, etc.
