Laramie Peak

List of Available Campgrounds

  • Esterbrook CG - This is the largest (12 sites) of our small campgrounds, and the closest to shopping and services. The CG is located on the east side of the unit, just 3 miles from the community of Esterbrook and 23 miles from Douglas, or Glendo. The area around the campground is popular for dispersed camping and OHV riding. There are two spur trails for campers to hike or bike over to the nearby Sunset Ridge OHV trail. Once per week, the host at this location would also check on Friend Park CG (11 sites), and the Laramie Peak TH located 22 miles to the south at the foot of Laramie Peak. Cell service is available to most at this CG. Potable well pump and vault toilets. No hookups but dump and fill available at our nearby Esterbrook Work Center.
  • Curtis Gulch CG - A 45 mile and little over a one-hour scenic drive from Douglas will take you to this 6-site campground at the end of LaBonte Canyon, which is the most popular area on the Laramie Peak unit. LaBonte Creek runs the entire length of the canyon and offers abundant swimming and fishing opportunities. Almost the entire canyon is heavily used by dispersed campers, most with OHV’s that come to ride the trails in the area. Hosts at this site would also help monitor the dispersed camping within the canyon. Potable well pump and vault toilet. No cell service, water, or power hookups.
  • Campbell Creek CG- Just 39 miles and a one-hour drive from Douglas takes you to the west side of the unit and our most popular campground. The six sites at this location are almost always occupied, mostly due to the shade and tranquil sounds of Campbell Creek running through the middle of the CG. With this location the host will be taking care of both the campground and the LaPrele Guard Station rental cabin. Host site can either be at the CG or the LaPrele grounds as they are only .2 miles apart. CG has potable well pump and vault toilet. LaPrele has a running water hydrant at the rental cabin and septic system for dumping. No cell service, water, or power hookups.
