Are you skilled in microcontrollers like Arduino and Raspberry Pi? Do you have a knack for hands-on projects and a passion for open-source technology? Asociación cátodo para la Protección y el Bienestar de los Gatos is seeking a technologically advanced volunteer to design and build an intelligent cat trap, allowing us to safely catch stray and abandoned cats for veterinary care and adoption.
Role: Tech Innovator for Smart Trap Project (Volunteer, Pro Bono)
Location: Remote/Hybrid (if possible for prototyping and testing)
About the Role:
As our Tech Innovator, you’ll lead an open-source project to develop a low-cost, smart cat trap using microcontrollers and other affordable technology. Your role involves designing and prototyping the trap, documenting the project, and reaching out to the online maker community to find resources and collaborators who can help bring this project to life.
Responsibilities:
- Design, prototype, and test a smart cat trap with remote monitoring and control features using Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar microcontrollers.
- Develop and document the project as an open-source resource, allowing others to replicate and improve the design.
- Network with online communities to gather resources, attract contributors, and source affordable materials.
- Collaborate with our team to ensure the trap is effective, safe, and humane for our rescue work.
- Explore automation possibilities and integrate affordable sensors to track movement, set timing, and notify remotely.
Requirements:
- Experience with microcontrollers like Arduino and Raspberry Pi, and familiarity with sensors, automation, and IoT.
- Hands-on experience with electronics and prototyping, with a passion for practical and budget-friendly solutions.
- Strong technical skills in documenting and sharing open-source projects.
- Ability to network in online maker communities to attract collaborators and find low-cost resources.
- Commitment to animal welfare and creative problem-solving.
