Urgent Call to Action: Help Us Save Our Children!

Our community is facing a crisis that affects not only the future of our children but the future of Antelope Valley and beyond. 70% of 4th graders in our area cannot read at grade level. Research shows that if a child is not reading proficiently by the end of 3rd grade, they are 4 times more likely to drop out of school. This staggering statistic is even more alarming when we learn that 85% of juveniles in the court system are functionally illiterate, and 70% of incarcerated adults can’t read above a 4th-grade level.

These kids are your neighbors, your childrens classmates and their friends. If we do not act NOW, this literacy gap will continue to lead children down a path toward juvenile detention and prison.

We need tutors - we need YOU!

How Can You Help? Join us at Mildrie’s Road Foundation and become a reading and math tutor. You don’t need previous teaching experience, just a desire to make a difference. We will provide the training and resources to help you succeed and, most importantly, help these kids succeed.

Why It Matters:

  • 80% of children in juvenile hall today can’t read.

  • If we don’t intervene early, we are allowing our community’s children to fall behind, and that failure impacts us all. This is not just about education; it’s about ensuring a better future for Antelope Valley and our country.

What We Need:

  • Volunteers who can dedicate a few hours a week to tutoring kids in grades 1-12 in reading and math.

  • Together, we can help them achieve the critical literacy skills needed to succeed in life.

Mildrie’s Road Foundation Inc. is a non-profit organization committed to transforming underserved communities through education, vocational training, and holistic support services. Founded in honor of Mildrie Martin, a lifelong advocate for education and community empowerment, the foundation works to break the cycle of poverty by equipping individuals with the tools they need to succeed in life.

Our programs include literacy and numeracy initiatives, vocational training in areas such as solar installation and construction, and community-based projects that foster self-sufficiency and personal growth. We focus on serving populations that face significant barriers to success, including formerly incarcerated individuals and underserved youth, offering them the opportunity to rebuild their lives and contribute to their communities.
