Volunteer Opportunity: Program Instructor, Tutor, and On-Call Substitute Program Instructor Location: Lancaster, CA (Virtual Tutoring Available) Organization: Mildrie's Road Foundation - House of Literacy Schedule: Part-Time | Afternoon and Evening Shifts | 3-6 Hours per Week About Mildrie’s Road Foundation - House of Literacy: Mildrie’s Road Foundation (MRF) is a leading non-profit organization in Los Angeles County, dedicated to improving literacy and providing enriching educational experiences for students. We are currently looking to fill three important volunteer roles: Program Instructor, Program Tutor, and On-Call Substitute Program Instructor. These roles are vital in helping elementary through high school students succeed academically, all within a virtual environment. Positions Available: Program Instructor (Virtual) Lead in face to face and virtual tutoring sessions, provide homework help, and oversee enrichment lessons in subjects like art, music, and gardening. Supervise and engage students in a safe and structured online environment. Assist with planning special projects and ensuring student progress. Program Tutor (Virtual) Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring in reading and math. Help students complete homework assignments and improve academic skills. Collaborate with other tutors and instructors to provide the best support for students. On-Call Substitute Program Instructor (Virtual) Step in to lead virtual sessions when a regular Program Instructor is unavailable. Provide supervision and tutoring support, ensuring continuity in student learning. Lead enrichment activities and offer guidance to students during online sessions. Key Responsibilities for All Roles: Provide virtual and non-virtual tutoring in reading, math, and homework assistance. Supervise and engage students in virtual learning environments. Design and lead enrichment activities, such as art, music, and gardening, in a virtual format (Program Instructor roles). Attend occasional online meetings and events as required. Assist with special projects and student recruitment and retention efforts. Attend virtual staff development trainings and workshops. Perform additional tasks as assigned. What You'll Receive: Paid Training: All volunteers receive comprehensive training to ensure success in their roles. As well as the "Honarary- Prestigious Presidential Award" Flexible Schedule: Part-time hours with afternoon and evening shifts to fit your schedule. Pass an academic proficiency test. Submit background check (LiveScan) and negative TB test results. Receive an offer and begin training! Requirements for All Roles: Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must pass an academic proficiency test. Must complete a background check and submit TB test results before the start date. Strong communication and organizational skills. Experience working with school-age children is a plus but not a must. Ability to engage and mentor students in a virtual setting. Physical Requirements: While some positions are fully virtual, volunteers should be prepared to: Sit for extended periods during virtual tutoring sessions. Engage students actively through online platforms. Ideal Candidate: Adaptable, energetic, and motivated. Strong communication and organizational skills. Experience working with children in educational or mentorship roles. Passionate about making a positive impact on students' academic and personal growth.
