Are you passionate about supporting humanitarian efforts through legal expertise? The World Disaster Center (WDC) is seeking a dedicated Pro-Bono Non-Profit Lawyer to provide critical legal assistance for our global disaster preparedness and response organization. Your work will directly contribute to empowering communities worldwide by ensuring our operations are legally sound and compliant with all necessary regulations.

What You'll Be Doing:
- Contracts for Volunteers and Pro-Bono Staff: Draft and review contracts for volunteers, pro-bono staff, interns, and consultants. Develop and refine codes of conduct to ensure ethical standards across all engagements.
- Tax-Exempt Status: Lead WDC’s efforts in applying for tax-exempt status with the IRS in the U.S. under 501(c)(3) guidelines, ensuring compliance with all federal regulations.
- Contract Terminations: Assist with terminating contracts for volunteers, staff, or consultants who are not fulfilling their obligations, while ensuring legal procedures are followed correctly.
- Volunteer Visa Support: Advise on and draft contracts and letters of support for volunteers seeking to assist WDC on a U.S. F1 Student Visa, ensuring they comply with immigration laws and visa requirements.
- Nonprofit Board Governance: Provide legal guidance in building an effective nonprofit board, including governance structures, board member agreements, and liability protections.
- Legal Documents for Website and Digital Platforms: Draft and review essential legal documents such as privacy policies, terms and conditions, and disclaimer policies for WDC’s website and our Michael Solutions platform to ensure compliance with global data privacy laws.
Who We’re Looking For:
- Legal Expertise in Non-Profit Law: You have experience working with non-profits, particularly in drafting contracts, handling governance matters, and navigating tax-exempt status filings.
- Contract and Employment Law Knowledge: Familiarity with U.S. labor laws, contracts, and regulations for volunteers, pro-bono staff, and international interns.
- Tax-Exemption and IRS Filings: A deep understanding of 501(c)(3) application processes and experience in securing tax-exempt status for non-profits.
- Privacy and Data Protection: You are well-versed in global privacy laws, including GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant regulations, and can ensure WDC’s online platforms are compliant.
- Collaborative and Proactive: You are a team player who can work closely with our leadership team, providing proactive solutions to legal challenges.

Time Commitment:
