Food distribution is a hands-on volunteer activity. Activities could include assisting with room set up, unloading and moving food from pallets to the distribution center; sorting and distributing food; and clean up. This is a great chance for volunteers to interface with our clients. This volunteer activity does require some heavy lifting (a minimum of 25lbs.) and regular movement.
The volunteer must be willing and able to work with people of different backgrounds and nationalities, exhibit compassion and sensitivity, maintain strict confidentiality of all member and volunteer information.

Additional information for this shift: See Reyna when you arrive, she is the site lead 1x/month Drive Thru Distribution serving and estimated 900 households on the 2nd Saturday. Volunteering is a physical activity where you will be on your feet for the majority of your shift. Some bending and lifting of up to 25 pounds will be required for some. There are several jobs to fit your needs. Bathrooms are available onsite and Parking available in lot .

Mission Statement

Lead our community to ensure that anyone who needs a healthy meal can get one.

Description

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is a private non-profit organization that collects and distributes more than 12 million pounds of food each month. We currently serve an average of over 500,000 individuals each month; 60% are low income families and 20% are seniors. By building collaborative networks, we efficiently distribute food by leveraging donations of money, food and human resources. But we cannot do it alone. We rely upon the energy and commitment of the local community to fight hunger. See more about our efforts at www.shfb.org.
