Site Leader Needed - Multiple Locations in Santa Clara County Available. Everyone should have access to healthy food. Second Harvest provides nutritious groceries and fresh produce at distribution sites throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. These sites are volunteer-run and rely on committed, dedicated volunteers who can support the effort on an ongoing basis. Lead the distribution of food at one of our Free Groceries sites with the help of other dedicated volunteers and the support of Second Harvest staff. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): -Leading the setup, distribution, and cleanup -Creating a warm and welcoming environment -Ensuring all safety guidelines are followed -Delegating tasks such as client check-in, traffic control, and food distribution This volunteer opportunity might be for you if: You are at least 18 years old You can commit to a minimum of 6 months You are friendly, patient and eager to work with clients and volunteers of diverse backgrounds You have the ability to perform with a high standard of customer service, professional conduct and responsibility You are organized and detail-oriented and have the ability to execute on a plan You enjoy working in a fast pace environment with many moving parts You have experience responding to issues quickly You have experience working with volunteers You are able lift 20 pounds Are comfortable using email and the internet Helpful background skills: Experience working for a non-profit or representing another organization as a volunteer Experience working with low-income families and individuals Bilingual in English/Spanish, English/Vietnamese, or English/Chinese Please reach out or email "ccorrea@shfb.org" to learn more about this opportunity.

Activities could include assisting with set up, unloading and moving food boxes from pallets, loading boxes into the cars of our clients, and site cleanup. This volunteer activity does require some heavy lifting (15-30 lbs.) and regular movement. Volunteers must be willing and able to work with people of different backgrounds and nationalities, exhibit compassion and sensitivity, maintain strict confidentiality of all member and volunteer information, as well as follow all guidelines and instructions provided by the site leader.

Volunteers receive a specific driving route, load their personal vehicles with food boxes, and deliver boxes to recipients’ homes (using their personal phone to call/text recipients day-of as needed). The delivery is entirely contactless, and the majority of recipients are seniors and/or individuals living with disabilities or health challenges. This is a fun, independent volunteer activity that allows you to provide much needed support to homebound community members. Please note that this volunteer activity requires repeated lifting of very heavy boxes that weigh 25 https://lbs to 40 lbs. and is best suited for volunteers with strong mobility and no back issues. The volunteer must be willing and able to work with people of different backgrounds and nationalities, exhibit compassion and sensitivity, and maintain strict confidentiality of all member and volunteer information. Volunteer delivery drivers must be at least 18 years of age, able to pass a background check, and provide proof of auto insurance and a valid driver’s license. Volunteers must use their own mileage and gas to deliver food. Once you have completed your first volunteer shift, you can decide if you would like to commit to be a regularly scheduled, long-term volunteer. If you would like to complete additional deliveries, you must sign a Home Delivery Volunteer agreement and submit to a background check before the next volunteer event.
