Board Member (Working Board) Non-Profit Organization

Position Overview:

The Board Member of We W.I.L.L. Thru Sports will play a crucial role in guiding the organization strategically while participating actively in its operational tasks. This is a working board, which means that, in addition to fulfilling traditional governance responsibilities, board members are expected to contribute their time, expertise, and resources to support the organization’s mission and day-to-day functions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Governance and Oversight:
- Participate in the development and approval of the organization’s strategic plan.
- Ensure the organization complies with legal and ethical standards and adheres to its mission.
- Monitor program outcomes

2. Operational Contributions:
- Assist in daily operational tasks as needed, which may include program development, fundraising, marketing, and community outreach.
- Bring specific expertise to working committees (e.g., finance, fundraising, program development) and actively contribute to their efforts.
- Participate in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of staff and volunteers as needed.

3. Fundraising and Resource Development:
- Participate actively in fundraising efforts, including identifying potential donors and funding opportunities.
- Cultivate relationships with stakeholders to enhance the organization’s visibility and secure partnerships.

4. Advocacy and Representation:
- Communicate the organization's mission, programs, and impact to promote awareness and support.

5. Meetings and Reporting:
- Attend scheduled board meetings and be prepared to discuss essential agenda items.
- Review materials and reports prior to meetings to ensure informed decision-making.

6. Mentorship and Support:
- Provide guidance and support to the Board President and staff, fostering a positive and collaborative environment.
- Offer insights and advice based on personal expertise and experience in relevant areas.

Qualifications:


- Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of individuals.
- Passion: A demonstrated commitment to We WI.L.L. 's mission and values.
- Expertise: Relevant expertise/ exposure in areas such as finance, fundraising, marketing, community engagement, or program development is highly desirable.

Time Commitment:

- A commitment of a few hours a week is expected.
- Attendance at board meetings and active participation in organizational activities and committees.

Compensation:
- This is a volunteer position; however, legitimate expenses incurred in the course of fulfilling board duties may be reimbursed.

We W.I.L.L. Thru Sports is a non-profit athletic organization providing high-quality affordable programs for youths in collaboration with our community-based partners throughout the Greater New York Metropolitan area.

Description

While reducing the amount of time youth spend unsupervised at home and on the street, We W.I.L.L. Thru Sports is working to promote positive peer relationships, teamwork, and sportsmanship. We are teaching youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle through sports activities and expose youth to a variety of successful sports professionals, teach valuable life lessons, encourage and expose them to the idea of valuing higher education.
