Do you enjoy reading, and have an interest in helping adult language learners practice English? This volunteer opportunity is for you! Catholic Charities Adult English language program is looking for book club leaders for small groups of beginner, intermediate and advanced adult language learners.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or continuing education credits
- Experience with English language learners and/or teaching is preferred
- Ability to plan and facilitate three one hour book discussions with a small group

- Basice computer skills
Responsibilities
- Read the book in advance (will be pre-selected and provided by Catholic Charities) and prepare discussion and comprehsion questions
- Help lead students through a discussion about the book and encourage participation from all attendees
- Create a warm and welcoming environment
- Keep a log of attendance after each meeting
- Communicate needs or concerns with the programs Volunteer Coordinator
Time Commitment: Commit to three one hour meetings
Location and Scheduling: Book clubs will take place on zoom or in-person at a public location on M. or F. mornings or evenings. We can work with your schedule to finalize time and location!

Description
Immigration and Refugee Services is a Catholic Charities program located in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. We provide English as a Second Language Services to a ten county region including virtual classes, tutoring, and citizenship interview prep. Our Empowering Women for Success program provides workshops and monthly diaper and feminine product distribution in partnership with Healthy Steps Diaper bank. All services are offered free of charge to all individuals.
