Are you a branding or UX design expert with a passion for making a difference? The World Disaster Center (WDC) is seeking a skilled Branding Expert/UX Design Expert Volunteer to help us develop cohesive and impactful branding guidelines that will enhance our presence across all platforms. Your work will directly support our mission to empower communities worldwide in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Branding Guidelines: Create a comprehensive set of branding guidelines for WDC, including:
    • Logo Usage: Define how the WDC logo should be used across various mediums (web, social media, documents, etc.).
    • Color Palette: Develop a color palette that reflects WDC’s mission and can be applied consistently across all materials.
    • Typography: Select and define fonts for WDC’s communications, ensuring readability and alignment with the brand identity.
    • Visual Elements: Establish visual elements such as iconography, image styles, and graphics that reinforce WDC’s identity.
    • Usage Guidelines: Provide clear instructions on how to apply the branding guidelines across different platforms and formats, including website, social media, internal/external documents, reports, and presentations.
  • User Experience Design: Work closely with the web development and communications teams to ensure that the user experience on WDC’s website and other digital platforms is intuitive, visually appealing, and aligned with the new branding.
  • Consistency Across Platforms: Ensure that the branding and visual identity are implemented consistently across WDC’s digital presence (website, social media), as well as internal and external materials (reports, presentations, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Branding/Design Expertise: Proven experience in branding, UX design, or visual identity development. Strong portfolio showcasing branding or design work.
  • Design Software Proficiency: Expert-level skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) or similar design tools.
  • Attention to Detail: A sharp eye for detail and consistency, ensuring branding guidelines are clear, professional, and aligned with WDC’s mission.
  • UX Design Knowledge: Strong understanding of user experience principles and their application to digital platforms (website, apps).
  • Self-Starter: Ability to work independently, manage your own projects, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Team Player: Comfortable working in a collaborative, remote team environment with designers, developers, and WDC’s leadership.

Time Commitment:

We request a commitment of at least 2-3 months to ensure a rewarding experience for both you and WDC. This approach allows volunteers the flexibility to reassess their commitment after the initial period, without feeling obligated to continue if their circumstances or desires change.
