ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service
Please visit the new page to apply.
The Pintler Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest is seeking individuals or couples to fill several campground host positions for the summer 2025 season.
The district is known for its high, rugged, and beautiful mountain scenery, as well as the variety of wildlife that makes its home there. Numerous trails lead into the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness, which straddles the Continental Divide along the crest of the Anaconda Range. The 3,000-acre Georgetown Lake is enclosed by lodgepole pines and views of the surrounding mountains. The area has excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, boating, fishing, hiking, biking, and off-roading. There are many lakes and streams across the district, including the Blue Ribbon trout stream Rock Creek.
All necessary tools, supplies, uniform components, and training will be provided by the Forest Service. Volunteers must have their own hard-sided RV or trailer. The pay rate is $35/day for a 5-day workweek and a campsite is provided (utilities depend on location, see CG list below).
Hours of service will vary depending on time of season and location. Expect to perform 1 - 3 hours of campground work each day (service bathrooms, check for litter, update reservations, check posts for fee slips, etc.). Hosts are present in the campground during check-out time (11AM), and in the late afternoon/early evenings (check-in is 4PM) to assist incoming visitors. Hosts work 5 days a week (including holidays and weekends) with two days off to explore. Positions begin the week before Memorial Day (flexible) and go through Labor Day.
Host Duties:
-Provide a welcoming environment to visitors, help orient, provide information, inform visitors of rules and regulations, direct campers to vacant sites
-Monitor campground and contact campers for general rule advisement, e.g., leashed pets, food storage, fire safety, parking, quiet hours
-Perform light maintenance tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, and raking gravel; cleaning and stocking vault toilets; picking up litter around sites, in fire rings
-Some campgrounds have a portion of their campsites reservable on Recreation.gov (see CG list below). The Host will download the daily arrival report from the website where feasible or receive a paper copy, and post reservation information on site posts.
-Involves walking, raking, shoveling, and working outside in a variety of weather conditions. This may include standing, bending, twisting, carrying, and lifting.
-It will not be your responsibility to collect/count fees or enforce the rules, however you will need to be comfortable speaking with campers about the rules and regulations and encourage compliance.
