Are you passionate about using your UX/UI skills to make a real difference in people's lives? The J Healthcare Initiative, a registered Canadian non-profit organization, is seeking a talented and dedicated UX/UI volunteer to join our team!
About Us:
The J Healthcare Initiative is committed to advocating for person-centred, evidence-based diverse care options for drug users to end the toxic drug crisis. We envision a world where substance use healthcare is a norm, where supply of substances are regulated and upscaled, where people exercise their own freedom to choose their own substance without fear of being prosecuted or being put into rehab against their will. We envision a world where substance users and those who live with substance use addiction have all the resources that they need to live a fulfilling life regardless of their intentions to abstain from substances.
Role Description:
As a UX/UI Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing user-centric digital solutions that support our mission. You will collaborate with our team to create intuitive, accessible, and engaging user experiences that inform, educate, and empower our target audience.
Responsibilities:
Conduct user research and analyze user behavior to inform design decisions
Design user-friendly interfaces that prioritize accessibility, usability, and visual appeal
Collaborate with developers to ensure seamless implementation of UX/UI designs
Iterate on designs based on user feedback and testing results
Contribute to the development of design systems and style guides to maintain consistency across all digital assets
Participate in regular team meetings and provide updates on project progress
Qualifications:
Strong portfolio demonstrating experience in UX/UI design for web and mobile
Proficiency in design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar
Understanding of user-centered design principles, information architecture, and interaction design
Familiarity with web accessibility standards and best practices
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Passion for using design to create positive social impact
Prior volunteering experience is required
Previous experience in the healthcare or non-profit sector is a plus
Time Commitment:
We request a commitment of 5-10 hours per week, with flexibility based on project needs and your availability.

Description
The J Healthcare Initiative has emerged as a powerful force in reforming substance use healthcare, balancing global advocacy with local action. We've successfully pushed for harm reduction in international drug policy, while also providing practical support through free smokable and injectable harm reduction supplies to youths who use drugs. Our partnerships with a few Canadian universities, offering paid internship and practicum placement for undergraduate and graduate student enable us to create the next generation of healthcare providers who understand the context of our toxic drug crisis. From presenting at international conferences to co-signing progressive drug policy manifestos, we're driving meaningful change in how society approaches substance use, keeping the well-being of individuals at the forefront of our mission.
