The Fairfield County Park District provides free programs and events throughout the year. These programs may be educational, recreational, artistic, or just for enjoying the outdoors. These events may take place at any one of our twelve unique parks, two nature preserves, or off-site partner locations. Whether you enjoy hiking, teaching, making art, history, or otherwise engaging the public in a shared love for nature, becoming Nature Center and Programs volunteer may be the perfect fit!
General activities may include, but are not limited to:
- Program/event preparation, execution, and tear down
- Providing park district information at off-site events (libraries, schools, etc.)
- Staffing the Mambourg Nature Center during open hours
- Assisting with school field trips
- Organizing educational materials and supplies
There are no qualifications necessary to become an FCPD Nature Center and Programs volunteer aside from possessing a great attitude and enjoyment of sharing a knowledge of nature with program attendees and visitors of all ages. Volunteers may be exposed to inclement weather, biting insects, noxious plants, and other risks associated with being in an outdoor setting.
All Fairfield County Park District volunteers are subject to a background check prior to
beginning volunteer activities. Reach out to volunteer@fairfieldcountyparks.org with questions or to find the application visit https://www.fairfieldcountyparks.org/get-involved/volunteer/!
