Grocery Bags for Seniors supplements the fixed income of our older community members through door-to-door distribution of fresh produce and groceries. Seniors face unique challenges including unreliable transportation, functional limitations, and health problems that limit their access to food. The Food Shuttle works with a series of volunteers to help pack almost 2,000 grocery bags a month with fresh produce, non-perishable food, and healthy snacks that can provide up to 8 nutritious meals. Following the packing of the grocery bags, volunteers also deliver the food to our 30 low income senior housing communities in Wake County.

Inter-Faith Food Shuttle envisions a hunger free community. We FEED our neighbors, TEACH self-sufficiency, GROW healthy foods, and CULTIVATE innovative approaches to end hunger.

Description

We engage communities facing hunger to understand their unique needs and barriers. Then by building relationships and engaging our neighbors, we create programs and initiatives that meet specific needs, breaking the cycles of poverty, restoring dignity and improving the health of our community. We have served the seven counties of central NC for over 32 years and are a member of the Feeding America network of 200 food banks across the nation.
