Goodwill of Southwestern PA is looking for individuals who enjoy helping others to make an impact in the adult learning community by assisting our adult HSE (High School Equivalency) instructors in their online classes. If you have experience teaching basic writing skills, such as evaluating arguments and planning and writing essays, please reach out and we can talk more! If you don't have experience with this but are comfortable teaching someone these basic skills and believe you have the patience to work with an adult learner who struggles with these skills, please reach out. After filling out an application, meeting with me over zoom, and getting your background clearances, we would have you complete appropriate trainings, talk with the teacher, observe 1-2 classes, and then you'd receive lesson plans and the worksheets that you would share with your students. You would have access to the teacher and to me for any questions, guidance, or training that you would need. Must have familiarity with and be willing to learn Zoom annotation, screen sharing, breakout rooms, etc. (It's not that hard! I can help you!) Our students in this class are working towards getting their High School Equivalency degrees by either completing their GED or HiSet tests. Volunteers ideally have their high school diploma or high school equivalency and a desire to help adult students achieve their educational goals! All Volunteers must live in either PA or one of the bordering states (NJ, NY, OH, MD, WV). Those interested can reply to this listing or if you have any questions, please contact Ashley Reilly, Education Volunteer Coordinator by text at 412-498-0412 or by email at ashley.reilly@goodwillswpa.org
