Goodwill of Southwestern PA is looking for individuals who enjoy helping others to make an impact in the adult learning community by assisting instructors in the ONLINE classroom. We are mainly looking for volunteers who can work with students on basic reading skills for people who are not native English speakers, with direction provided by the classroom teacher. These are students who have graduated from our English Language program and have transitioned into our HSE/GED program. Our students are working to take the GED tests to obtain their High School Equivalency diplomas. Classes are in the mornings from 10:00-12:00PM on Mondays and Wednesdays. A desire to help adult students achieve their educational goals and an interest in the subject matter is always a plus! All Volunteers must live in either PA or one of the bordering states (NJ, NY, OH, MD, WV). Those i nterested can contact Ashley Reilly, Education Volunteer Coordinator by text at 412-498-0412 or by email at ashley.reilly@goodwillswpa.org

Goodwill of Southwestern PA is looking for individuals who enjoy helping others to make an impact in the adult learning community by assisting instructors in the classroom at our new Opportunity Center on the Southside at 2700 East Carson Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15203. If you have experience teaching basic reading and or basic math skills, please reach out and we can talk more! If you don't have experience with this but are comfortable teaching someone these basic skills and believe you have the patience to work with an adult learner who struggles with these skills, please reach out. We are seeking someone who can come to our Opportunity Center on the Southside from 1:00-3:30PM on Mondays and Wednesdays. To help one of these students, you'd first meet with me briefly, either in person or on Zoom, to go over details of our program and what you would do, fill out a volunteer application, complete a free and quick PA criminal background check, and then we'd help you to learn about what students need to know for this exam. Once you are all prepped, you would be introduced to the student and ready to start working with them. Support is always available from me, the Volunteer Coordinator, and from our adult education instructors. Six-month commitment minimum please. Our volunteers do take time off here and there for trips they take, vacation, holidays, etc, but overall, 5 hours per week on average is required. Thank you for considering this opportunity! Those i nterested can contact Ashley Reilly, Education Volunteer Coordinator by text at 412-498-0412 or by email at ashley.reilly@goodwillswpa.org
