Veteran-to-Veteran Volunteers Needed to visit Hospice Patients

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Sutter Care at Home - Hospice https://www.sutterhealth.org/scah

Hospice of the Valley (Sutter Care at Home) is looking for military Veterans to join our We Honor Veterans Program. Through this program, we recognize the service and sacrifices of Veteran hospice patients. Volunteers will visit terminally ill patients in their homes to thank them for their service in our country's armed forces. These unique and profoundly meaningful visits are a way for us to honor patients and families for all they have given through their military service. Your presence creates space for Veterans at the end of life to share their experiences and connect with fellow Veterans who understand what it means to serve.

Location:

1025 Atlantic Ave, Suite 100, Alameda, CA 94501, US

Mission Statement

Sutter Care at Home enhances the health and well being of the people in the communities we serve through a not-for-profit commitment to compassion and excellence in home-based services and products.

Description

To become a hospice volunteer at Sutter Care at Home the greatest gift you can offer is your time, your caring nature, and your willingness to listen. Training and ongoing support are provided to all volunteers, so experience is not required. It's a great opportunity to learn new skills and enhance existing ones. Volunteers are trained to enhance the overall goal of meeting the physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs of hospice patients and their families.

Volunteers may stay with the patient to give the caregiver some time away or time to rest and they can be a caring companion and compassionate listener to both patients and families. While volunteers cannot provide clinical or personal care, they may be able to assist with routine tasks and errands.

Requirements: Volunteers receive 24 hours of training, health clearance and a background check, and attend monthly educational meetings. They must work closely with Volunteer Program Coordinator as members of the hospice team.
