Are you passionate about helping transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse (trans+) people thrive and live free of hate and discrimination?

Join TRACTION’s Project Open Arms as a Resource Navigator and make a real difference in the lives of people seeking a fresh start in sanctuary states.

Open Arms serves as a referral network for "red state refugees" to find organizations, agencies, providers, and other resources that respect and humbly serve trans+ people of all ages. We are based in Washington State but network nationwide.

What you’ll do as a resource navigator:

  • Support trans+ people who are under attack in hostile U.S. states in their goal to relocate to trans-affirming sanctuary U.S. states.
  • Connect or refer relocating trans+ folks to vital resources such as:
    • Gender-affirming and reproductive healthcare
    • Affordable housing options
    • Job opportunities
    • ID alignment and legal aid
    • Community and peer support networks
    • Mutual aid and local support services
  • Research additional resources based on the contact’s needs
  • Provide compassionate guidance throughout the relocation process

We’re looking for volunteers who:

  • Share TRACTION’s core values, including anti-racism
  • Understand trans+ people’s lived experiences and needs
  • Have some knowledge of existing trans+ resources and services
  • Have strong research and communication skills
  • Enjoy talking to people
  • Can dedicate 5-10 virtual hours per week
  • Are empathetic, patient, and committed to our community’s well-being

No prior experience is necessary. Bring your enthusiasm and dedication to supporting people through service. Join our team of volunteers and help build a stronger community.

Navigators must be at least 18 years of age.
