ORGANIZATION: Volunteer Polk

  • 2 people are interested

United Way of Central Florida is seeking additional ReadingPals volunteers. ReadingPals is a statewide early literacy initiative that provides volunteer mentors for students who may need extra help. Volunteers interested in becoming a ReadingPal will receive training and get matched with Kindergarten children at one of the listed 15 schools selected by the potential volunteer. The volunteer will receive a binder of the lessons at the training. Kits with books and questions are located in the classroom for use with 2 students. Student sessions will be one on one and back to back for 30 minutes each equaling to 1 hour total weekly. Choose the day that best fits your schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

No teaching/tutoring experience is required - just a passion for encouraging literacy in your community's youth. Attire should be suitable for the classroom. All potential volunteers will need to be background screened through the FDLE at no cost and through Polk County Public Schools at a cost of $25 which is non-refundable.

The ReadingPals early literacy initiative helps students establish a foundation for reading by improving vocabulary, listening skills, comprehension, and visual and auditory memory. Be a part of developing your community's future one student at a time!
