ORGANIZATION: Delray Beach Public Library Association, Inc.

Overview: As a Computer Desk Help Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in assisting library patrons with basic computer skills and technology-related inquiries. Your friendly demeanor and willingness to help will create a welcoming environment for visitors seeking assistance.

Responsibilities:

- Assist Patrons: Provide guidance to library visitors on using computers, software applications, and online resources.

- Troubleshoot Issues: Help troubleshoot common computer problems, such as printing, internet connectivity, and software navigation.

- Basic Training: Offer brief tutorials on using library databases, online catalogs, and other digital tools.

- Collaborate: Work closely with library staff and other volunteers to ensure a collaborative and supportive atmosphere.

- Maintain a Welcoming Environment: Create an inclusive space where patrons feel comfortable seeking help.

Qualifications:

- Basic Computer Skills: Familiarity with common software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, web browsers).

- Effective Communication: Ability to communicate clearly with patrons, parents, and library staff.

- Patience and Empathy: A friendly and patient demeanor when assisting patrons of all ages.

- Reliability: Commitment to scheduled volunteer shifts.

Requirements:

- Completion of a VolunteerMatch Profile and Volunteer Applications is required.

Time Commitment: Volunteers are needed during library hours in shifts as follows:

Monday to Wednesday: 9-1PM - 1 Volunteer per shift per day

Monday to Wednesday: 1-5PM - 1 Volunteer per shift per day

Monday to Wednesday: 5-8PM- 1 Volunteer per shift per day

Thursday to Saturday: 9-1PM - 1 Volunteer per shift per day

Thursday to Saturday: 1-5PM - 1 Volunteer per shift per day

Sunday: 1-5PM - 1 Volunteer per shift per day

Description

The Ladies Improvement Association founded the Delray Beach Public Library in 1913. In 1938 the Delray Beach Public Library Association became a not-for-profit corporation to provide a public library in Delray Beach. Since 1950, our patrons have received library service through a successful public/private partnership between the City of Delray Beach and the Library Association. The City of Delray Beach has provided a large percentage of the annual operating budget and the Library Association has raised capital funds.

Delray Beach Public Library exists to enrich the lives of the individuals of Delray Beach’s diverse communities by creating and sustaining superior public library services through responsive staff, dynamic collections, appropriate technology and access to global information.
