Overview: As a Book Shelver Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining the organization and accessibility of our library collections. Your attention to detail and commitment to keeping our shelves in order will directly impact on our patrons’ experience.
Responsibilities:
- Shelving: Sort and shelve books according to the library’s classification system.
- Organization: Ensure a neat and organized appearance of the Adult and Teen Fiction and Nonfiction sections.
- Inventory Support: Assist in periodic inventory checks, evaluating materials’ physical conditions and recommend replacing or repairing as needed.
Qualifications:
Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately organize and shelve books in the correct order.
Physical Stamina: Comfortable lifting and moving books and materials.
Reliability: Commitment to scheduled volunteer shifts.
Interest in Literature: Passion for books and libraries.

Time Commitment: Volunteers are needed during library hours in shifts as follows:
· Monday to Saturday: 9-1PM - 1 volunteer per shift per day
· Monday to Saturday: 1-5PM - 1 volunteer per shift per day
· Sunday: 1-5PM - 1 volunteer per shift per day

Description
The Ladies Improvement Association founded the Delray Beach Public Library in 1913. In 1938 the Delray Beach Public Library Association became a not-for-profit corporation to provide a public library in Delray Beach. Since 1950, our patrons have received library service through a successful public/private partnership between the City of Delray Beach and the Library Association. The City of Delray Beach has provided a large percentage of the annual operating budget and the Library Association has raised capital funds.
Delray Beach Public Library exists to enrich the lives of the individuals of Delray Beach’s diverse communities by creating and sustaining superior public library services through responsive staff, dynamic collections, appropriate technology and access to global information.
