About Us:
We are a nonprofit dog rescue organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs in need. We’re looking for dedicated volunteers to assist in our field operations, where you’ll directly care for our rescue dogs and support essential animal care tasks. If you have a passion for animal welfare and want to get hands-on experience in animal care, this is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
Position Summary:
We are seeking compassionate and reliable volunteers to assist with fieldwork, animal care, and hands-on support for our dogs in rescue. Volunteers will work closely with our Field Director and care team to help with daily tasks such as cleaning kennels, feeding dogs, administering medication, and supporting the care and well-being of our animals. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals who are comfortable working with animals in a shelter or rescue setting and want to contribute directly to the health and happiness of our dogs.
Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care:
- Feed and provide fresh water to dogs in the rescue program according to their specific dietary needs.
- Administer medications or treatments to dogs as directed by the veterinarian or Field Director.
- Assist with basic grooming and hygiene care, such as brushing, bathing, and checking for fleas/ticks.
- Clean kennels, crates, and play areas, ensuring all living spaces are sanitary and safe for the dogs.
- Monitor the health and behavior of dogs, reporting any concerns or changes in condition to the Field Director or veterinary team.
Field & Transport Assistance:
- Help transport dogs to and from medical appointments, foster homes, and adoption events as needed.
- Assist with picking up supplies from local stores, transporting materials to and from the rescue’s base, and helping with transportation of animals when required.
- Help to socialize dogs or use behavioral enrichment activities to ensure dogs are well-socialized and prepared for adoption.
- Provide assistance during community outreach programs and local adoption events.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with other volunteers and staff to maintain the daily schedule and flow of operations.
- Take part in regular team meetings and contribute ideas for improving animal care and overall operations.
Qualifications:
Experience & Skills:
- Previous experience in animal care, veterinary settings, animal shelters, or similar environments is highly preferred.
- Comfortable working with animals, including large dogs and dogs with medical needs.
- Ability to clean and sanitize kennels, crates, and other animal areas in a timely and thorough manner.
- Knowledge of basic dog care, including feeding, grooming, and administering medications is a plus.
- Ability to work in outdoor or sometimes challenging environments, including cleaning up after animals and lifting supplies.
Personal Qualities:
- A passion for animal welfare and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of rescue dogs.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a high level of responsibility in performing care tasks.
- Comfortable working independently or as part of a team and following directions carefully.
- Must be comfortable handling dogs of all temperaments and sizes.
