The Hiawatha National Forest is recruiting one volunteer to serve as a Customer Service Assistant at the Munising Ranger District located in Munising, MI. This position provides a year-round opportunity to serve the public. When applying, please provide at least 3 professional references . There is no lodging provided for this position.
Duties may include:Answering phones; providing public information; brochure restocking of reception area; occasional light maintenance of display cabinets, posters, foyer, display kiosk, entryway; data compiling; assisting customer services representatives; organizing supplies; filing; printing/copying; laminating; minor maintenance and troubleshooting with common office equipment; assist in mailroom; and small office projects in support of district programs. Volunteer may have opportunities to assist with special events such as staffing Forest Service information/education table, helping with field logistics, and general support at the assigned administrative office, in the community, and out on National Forest Lands.
Schedule: Preference is for volunteers who can commit for at least a couple months, assisting in the office 1-5 days per week, 4-8 hours per day, between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm. Schedule is flexible.
About the Forest: The Hiawatha National Forest lies in the central and eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Approximately 1 million acres fall within the Forest’s boundary. The Hiawatha National Forest is divided geographically into two units. Munising Ranger District and Rapid River/Manistique Ranger District comprise the Forest’s West Unit with shorelines on Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. The Forest’s East Unit includes the St. Ignace and Sault Ste. Marie Ranger Districts, with shorelines on Lakes Superior, Michigan and Huron. The Munising Ranger District is located in Munising, MI.
