Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: William Temple House

  • 3 people are interested

William Temple House, located at 2023 NW Hoyt, operates a food pantry three times a week that serves several hundred people each month. In addition to food and hygiene items, we also distribute clothing to people who need it. Our clothing closet is in the basement of our building, directly adjacent to our food pantry. As our operations have grown, we have also seen an increased need for clothes from our clients. We are looking for volunteers to help find appropriate clothes and distribute them to people during pantry hours.

The ideal volunteer for this position will be able to organize the clothing closet and work with clients to get them appropriate articles of clothing. Clients do not visit the clothing closet in person, so it is important that this volunteer is able to communicate effectively and find the right clothes for each person.

When: Our clothing closet is open weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 11:00am-2:00pm. Ideally, we would have a Clothing Closet volunteer help each of those days from 11am to 2pm (a different volunteer each day). If there is a time that works for you that doesn’t fit in those hours, please let us know! We would still love to have you volunteer.

Duties:

  • Organize clothes by size and category in our clothing closet
  • Fulfill client orders and needs in the clothing closet (clients do not visit the closet in person)
  • Keep track of number of visits to the clothing closet and other minor administrative tasks
  • Receive and sort clothing donations
  • Communicate with clients about types of clothes, basic size questions, and other inquiries

Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with fellow volunteers, staff, and occasionally challenging clients.
  • Be able to lift and carry 10+lbs. Able to work on feet. You will be lifting and carrying small handfuls of clothing. Staff will be available to help with any heavier lifting.
  • Interest and ability to sort and fold clothing.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail a must. The closet is located in a small space, and strong organizational skills will be helpful to this position.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • We ask that volunteers make a 3 month commitment, and volunteer on a regular basis (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or in an 'on-call' capacity).

1 Shift
