Seeking Russian, Ukrainian, and Polish speaking volunteers in Bay Ridge and Bath Beach.
Volunteering is one of the most fulfilling ways to give back to your community. When you volunteer with older adults, you have the opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life, while enriching your own. If you live in Bay Ridge or Bath Beach, you’re part of two vibrant neighborhoods that are home to many seniors, many of whom speak Russian, Polish, or Ukrainian. These communities benefit from the support, companionship, and care volunteers provide, and there’s a real need for volunteers who can connect with seniors in their native languages.
Overview of the Friendly Visiting Program:
Riseboro Community Partnership is seeking volunteers who are interested in spending one hour out of the week chatting via phone with a home bound senior citizen. Many of our seniors are more isolated and therefore are battling depression and anxiety due to the impact of COVID-19.
Our senior citizens are unable to go out into the community and are looking for a companion to laugh with, talk to and enjoy their time with!
Volunteers have three different ways to engage with seniors:
1) Having one on one calls
2) Visiting seniors in their own home (play chess, card games, dominoes, chat, and listen to music!)
3) Facilitating a group call (seniors participate in a group call)
This is a mutually rewarding friendship, where you're able to learn about the seniors in your neighborhoods, their art styles, interests and the changes that have occurred to the community over the years!
We serve a diverse group of elderly and seek people of all backgrounds and ages (18 and up) to join us in helping our seniors feel more connected to their communities.
This Friendly Visiting Program is funded by The NYC Department for the Aging.
