Counselors In The Community Association Co., CITCA is recruiting students for our hybrid SEL Mentor opportunity. CITCA is a national 501c3 with an anti-poverty mission to improve the quality of life for disadvantaged communities. Forming a national alliance with counselors throughout the United States across various specialties, the organization aims to strengthen the counselor-community relationship by getting counselors active in low income communities for service including education, programs, and community volunteering and increase opportunities for counselors in training to gain industry experience while making a difference in the lives of others. We believe that together, along with community, we can bridge the gaps in access to care and resource to empower communities and reduce poverty and poverty-related issues nationwide.
CITCA offers programs for parents, children, young adults and nuerodivergent individuals. Offering a wide range of services including educational trainings/workshops, mental health referrals, resources, advocacy, and transformation SEL. Mentors will be provided opportunities to learn and perform within other operations of the organization. There is much opportunity for growth.
To be employed by CITCA, candidates enter through the Pathway to Hire process. Pathway to Hire includes a 1-year volunteer position hold before candidates are eligible to receive a full employment offer. Selected candidates will sign-on in a volunteer position, dedicating a minimum of 5-20 hours a week to support the mission. Compensation will be provided for all workshops facilitated based on contractual basis. Upon satisfactory performance review, the candidate will be offered a full hire position. All staff are hired through this process.
Position description:
The SEL Mentor will provide social emotional learning workshops for youth ages 6-15 experiencing social and/or emotional difficulties or disorders. During the workshops, mentors will engage in interactive activities of theory and practical learning concepts for a duration of 80 minutes to 2-hours.
Workshop location will vary throughout the Baltimore Metropolitan area. A minimum of 5-20 hours required for this job.
Duties:
* Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to youth participants and teen mentors
* Provide community resources for mentees, families and community members
* Complete reports and program documentation using Microsoft Office and other technology systems.
* Engage in SEL community outreach
* Attend meetings, events, and conferences as needed
* Conduct surveys, focus groups, and preparation meetings
* Work collaboratively with our team to develop workshop content, activities and materials
Qualifications:
* Studying in behavioral science including clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, social work, human services, applied behavior analysis, or psychology
* Have understanding of mental health and/or behavior health services
* Be a current undergraduate (sophomore, junior, senior) or graduate student
* Willing to submit background and drug screening
* No history of child endangerment or unlawful behavior
* Have a valid drivers license or photo ID and reliable transportation to commute to assigned locations
* Ability to plan, organize and complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to coordinate and organize multiple functions and activities
* Work with extremely tight deadlines
* Proficiency with technology usage including Microsoft Office is required
* Ability to effectively maintain the security of sensitive and confidential information

CITCA is a national 501c3 on a powerful mission to increase strengthen mental health awareness and community resilience. Our association includes a collaborative alliance among counselors, mental health professionals, and community members nationwide engaging in civic community activities that promote mental health awareness and resiliency. Through such allyship the organization strengthens anti-poverty initiatives that bridge the gaps on access to care and socioeconomic resources including programs, education and employment resources.
Since incorporating the nonprofit has been driving impact in social emotional learning, SEL and increasing access to counseling services for low income families. The organization also offer programs for youth leadership development, advocacy, community resources and programs that contribute to prosocial development and other services to close equity gaps
We are seeking volunteers to serve with us who share similar passions to increase mental health awareness and strengthen communities. Volunteers are the driving force our mission would be incomplete without and we welcome all with a passion too serve.
