About:
Childcare assistants are responsible for providing support to shelter staff when parents are attending various classes, resident group activities and/or overseeing children when mom needs a little me time. Tasks may include but not limited to...overseeing children between ages 0-12 by helping maintain a safe, fun environment by playing games with children, watching movies and reading books etc... Carefully monitoring children while they play and giving attention to them by executing various age-appropriate activities & projects is a must. ACCESS staff and parents will always be on-site. Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must pass a background check
- Must be available Tuesday and/or Thursday evening
- Must be comfortable watching children of different ages at the same time (i.e. watching a newborn, a 3-year-old, and a seven year old child simultaneously)
- Must be responsible, patient, flexible, and attentive
ACCESS offers health & wellness sessions and life skills classes to not only help educate our residents & empower them but to address challenges that have brought them to a situation of housing insecurity. We also host resident activity events (game nights, movie nights etc...) and just give parents a breather. Having childcare assistants allow our mothers to attend classes and events, which is why childcare volunteers are essential and directly support our client's on their journey to permanent housing!
